sea dragon ???'s

As far as care I don't believe it is much different than with wild caught seahorses. They often need Live mysids as they tend to be picky eaters. That is another reason to wait on captive bred, they are usually taught to eat frozen food. I think a dragon would also take frozen krill if adapted to captive conditions. The are certainly large enough.

The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago fed theirs Gamma brand Mysis shrimp. They also kept them in about 7 foot tall cylindrical tanks. I don't know the specifics on the water parameters but needless to say I'm sure they were temperate and the water was perfect.

If they regularly bred, and the babies can be raised, possibly. There are many issues......their status in the wild, their size, and their environment (they are kept in 55-60F water temps). It is unlikely. They need a tall, chilled aquarium.

Well just my 2 cents here guys. The Aquairum of the Pacific in Long Beach California has a couple of tanks and has not only managed to breed them, they have also been trained to eat FROZEN Mysis. They said it took about a year.

I beleave they sent the offspring to other aquairums and even some back to OZ to be put back into the wild.

Thier tanks are not overly huge proabably 6 ft tall and wide. That said, I ask about water and being an aquairum, they try to simulate changes in light and water temp to coinside with the seeasons. They have backup generators, seprate filtration systems, and just about every thing you could think of since we do live in earthquake country. I think they said they could run for a week without any outside power or food in the event of a major disaster.
