came home today and noticed my sea hare slug is not moving. i had it since december and it ate every algae it found. but just today out in the open i see it just chilling in front of the glass which is normal, but half the size and its coloration is pale green...

what should i do?? I tried moving it but it didnt move is it sleeping???

Sea hairs need lots of algae daily.

I had one that I traded in after a few weeks after it devoured all my algae.

I would guess it has starved to death.

its alive!!
i watched it over nite and it kind of shedded a slime for the first time i saw this happen. i think it molted?!?! but who knows.

every monday and thursday i wrapping 2 leafs of romaine lettuce in the tank rubberband it to a small live rock and by next two days its gone.

but last night it scared the crap out of me

Re: will a sea hare eat any algae: no.

There are ten different genera of sea hares and most have specific dietary preferences. I watched an Aplysia spp. take a taste of some caulpera once, and it jerked back quickly (and you could see the contents of the algae leak into the water.) Very few sea hares are cosmopolitan about what they will consume, although very large research labs (with resources and interns) are able to keep some sea hares on completely artificial diets.

I only see my sea hare every couple of days and last saw it yesterday, motionless on the sand bed. When I returned from work, it was gone so I guess it moved. Mine eats very slowly, I've had it 2 weeks and has barely made a dent in the hair algae. I look forward to the day I'll need to return it for lack of food source.
