Sea Hare + Sixline Wrasse

I want to add a Sea Hare to my 55 gallon reef aquarium. My current stock includes 2 clowns, a diamond goby, tomini tang, sixline wrasse, as well as 2 cleaner shrimp and an emerald crab.

I am getting the sea hare to control dictyota algae. Should I be worried that my current tank inhabitants may attack/kill the sea hare?

I wouldn't be worried at all. They are totally different. Might check him out for a min, then continue on with there business.

I'd worry more about the other tank inhabitant you didn't mention. The sea hare's worst enemy... the dreaded powerhead :eek2:

I have a seahare in my system that cruises from tank to tank through bulkheads and utubes. It has never had a powerhead issue yet.

I got a surprise when I moved it one time. It was hit by a strong current and knocked around when I put it in the tank. When it stopped rolling it extended a short tube and shot out a small amount of purple ink. I didnt know they could use ink in self defense. It dissapated right away and caused no bad affects in the tank. They are good algae eaters always cruising for more food.

That dye is toxic. Charcoal will make short work of it though.

My Sea Hare

My Sea Hare

I just witnessed my emerald crab attack my sea hare. I have put 5 sea hares in recently to combat the algae. I don't see any of them except this one. I know they come out mostly at night I just wonder if this crazy crab has killed them. He was try to puncture him with is claw.
