Sea Hare

I ordered a Sea Hare from the reefs2go order. I'm hoping that maybe it will eat the razor caulerpa in my tank. I read on liveaquaria that the sea hare will eat ANY caulerpa. And another site said the same and said to be sure to have some on hand in a refugium for feeding.

But then I read on other sites too, that the sea hare won't touch the caulerpa. So it's just one of those gambles where I have to try it myself so I will know.

So the point of this post is, If you have alot of algae, I will have a free sea hare if after a few days or so I see it not eating the caulerpa.

Oh, Better make it a small one then, Have you tried manual removal? You can get it out if you keep after it.

Two things I can contribute to this post:

1.) Manual removal sucks, especially green hair algae removal. The spores release into the water column when you pick it off of the rock and then it spreads. It was a never ending nightmare for me. Not to discourage you from attempting it, just stating my experience with it.

2.) Rhett ordered blue spotted sea hares once and I decided to take one home. Within 2 days *SLURP* sucked into the powerhead, because he liked to get as close as possible to the strong flow. So the point would be, be careful with hares and powerheads.

Anthony, He has a Caulerpa Razor Algae Issue, Not hair Algae. The Issue with it is the Roots, If there is any of the Foot left it will grow back. But it can be removed by hand if your vicious in attacking it. Rock by rock and remove and scrub the roots off if possible.

PS, I agree about the Hare's they are a risk to say the least.

yea, im kinda waiting for mine to start if this tank cycles.. funny though. so far, no major spikes of anything.... I may get lucky.

I will keep everyone posted on how it goes. If it wasn't for my 2 clownfish bein' so aggressive, I would try a small tang. Cause if I knew a tang would eat. I would throw the rock in the 80 and move the tang. But the last 2 fish I tried to put in the tank got beat up by the clowns.

They attack my hands when I'm pullin' the caulerpa. It's funny though, there is not one piece of caulerpa near their hairy mushroom rock they host. I guess they keep their little area cleaned.

Clowns are funny like that try and put a coral or rock next to them if they don't like it they will move it on the other side of the tanks. That's what my clowns do it's funny to see. But they also killed a lot of acros that way they know to pick the coral up and put it on my lps.
What type of clowns are yours mine are yellow strip maroon.

Mine are just regular ocellaris. I've had the female since 05 and the male since 06. Yea, they will take their nose and shove corals over. If the hare doesn't work. My next step is new setup. Been kind of wantin' a 24 nano cube anyways and move them.

Yea your best bet is to use a tang to eat them. Sea Hare is a maybe.... IF sea hare have no where to go, I've got some stuffs for it to eat...lol
