I have 2 purple and 1 white urchins in my tank, they do scrap all over the coraline but they make quick work of any hair algae in the tank. I will be moving them to my fuge soon enough as the coraline in my 55 can not keep up with them. Hopefully it will be different when my 150 is set up.
Last night I turned my new sea hare loose in my tank.
Overnight he annihilated a bunch of green hair algae in a group of polyps I have!! It is stunning. I turned him loose last night just as the lights were going off and in the morning he had done major damage to algae in two places. The polyp area I do not have before and after pictures because I was not expecting him to work that area but it is virtually algae free. This pictures below show where I placed him after he was acclimated using the drip method over 3 hours.
The shoom in the top of the pictures is the same in both. He left some algae in this area but in the other area by the polyps there is NO visible algae left!

He appears to be nocturnal and we have not seen him today. Several people have tried to find him. I am anxious to see what he does tonight. I have my fingers crossed.
There is in no way nearly enough hair algae in your tank to last the hare any more than a week or two. It will starve unless you feed it after the algae is gone.
I can't find the one I put into my tank the other day either! I'm hoping he hasn't dies & is as you said, nocturnal. Sure didn't look that way in the shop. It was crawling all over the glass. I think I'll test for amonia now...
