just curious if anyone else has one of these? i have had mine for about a month and it has eaten every bit of algea in my tank i need to begin feeding it and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

i got it at finz for about 20 bucks i think. i may have to get rid of him i read somewhere that once it has eaten all of your hair algea it typically starves to death

Moongoddess, not really (IMO)...I had mine for about 6 months, I have no algae but he's still around. They usually scrape on the rocks. I believe mine bred because I see some small ones now.

I had a pair of brown ones that I caught in the bay who lived in my 10g refugium for about a year. I'm pretty sure they died when I pruned out out the type macro algae they were eating. If he's not happy eating what's left in your tank I'd say start trying to feed him different macro algaes - do you have a refugium? You could start a 10g one with a couple compact flourescent bulbs, grab a few types of macro in the water by the skyway rest areas, and see what they eat.

My system at the time had a total water volume of <40g, 2 of them died (they were 2.5" long maybe) and I never found their bodies and nothing was harmed. I've heard that protein skimmers remove the toxin but I don't know if tht's true, or even if they all have toxin.
