All,
I'd like to do another Sea Life Inc group buy, especially now that we are in "blue tang season."
This was the last group buy:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2104024
To steal from that thread, the rules will be the same:
0) Before the group buy actually happens, we need to get a somewhat solid idea in this thread of who is participating, and we need to pick a ship date.
1) Once we have a ship date, I go place my order, and I pay the vendor for my items AND the shipping charges ($40). At this time, I specify a group name, which for us will be URS Group Buy
2) Once I have placed my order, everyone else who participates goes on the vendor's website and places an order like normal, paying the vendor directly for the items they purchase - when prompted to choose a shipping method, you specify that it is part of a group buy and provide the group buy name. You DO NOT pay the vendor for shipping since I have already paid the flat shipping rate.
3) The vendor ships everything to me with orders individually packed within the box(es).
4) People come to my house and pick up their items. At this time, we will know the "final" head count, so people can reimburse me for their fraction of the shipping.
The nice thing here is everyone places their orders on their own and pays the vendor directly for their items, so I don't have to fool around with money (other than shipping) or keeping track of who wanted what. Last time, this went really smoothly, everyone was happy with their orders, and everyone got at least one "extra" added in. We even talked about doing it again, so here's our chance! The vendor has really good prices and an interesting selection of Caribbean livestock that can be hard to find elsewhere. Plus, the fact that the people running the place and answering your questions via phone/email are the same people who are out on the boat catching your livestock is pretty neat. It's a really short supply chain.
My plan right now is this - leave this "open" through the end of the week, then on Friday we'll pick a ship date (hopefully next week) and move forwards. So if you are interested please post up!
