Sea Life Inc Group Buy /Syracuse

All,

I'd like to do another Sea Life Inc group buy, especially now that we are in "blue tang season."

This was the last group buy:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2104024

To steal from that thread, the rules will be the same:

0) Before the group buy actually happens, we need to get a somewhat solid idea in this thread of who is participating, and we need to pick a ship date.

1) Once we have a ship date, I go place my order, and I pay the vendor for my items AND the shipping charges ($40). At this time, I specify a group name, which for us will be URS Group Buy

2) Once I have placed my order, everyone else who participates goes on the vendor's website and places an order like normal, paying the vendor directly for the items they purchase - when prompted to choose a shipping method, you specify that it is part of a group buy and provide the group buy name. You DO NOT pay the vendor for shipping since I have already paid the flat shipping rate.

3) The vendor ships everything to me with orders individually packed within the box(es).

4) People come to my house and pick up their items. At this time, we will know the "final" head count, so people can reimburse me for their fraction of the shipping.

The nice thing here is everyone places their orders on their own and pays the vendor directly for their items, so I don't have to fool around with money (other than shipping) or keeping track of who wanted what. Last time, this went really smoothly, everyone was happy with their orders, and everyone got at least one "extra" added in. We even talked about doing it again, so here's our chance! The vendor has really good prices and an interesting selection of Caribbean livestock that can be hard to find elsewhere. Plus, the fact that the people running the place and answering your questions via phone/email are the same people who are out on the boat catching your livestock is pretty neat. It's a really short supply chain.

My plan right now is this - leave this "open" through the end of the week, then on Friday we'll pick a ship date (hopefully next week) and move forwards. So if you are interested please post up!

Group buy

From looking at the other post it looks like he's in Syracuse but I'm interested too so maybe we can organize a Rochester group buy?

Wow what a great selection and very reasonable prices. Syracuse is too far for me to drive but I bookmarked the site. Think I'll order my CuC and some Rics from them. They have no shipping until Aug 26th which should just about be the end of my cycle. Thank you for the link!

Sure I am in again. We can revisit end of August. My ric is three times the original size now. I will probably get another, a purple gorg, and who knows what else. :fish2:

I'm in if we have a decent number of people. I will order a redball sponge and a purple plume gorg. I know big spender right?
It's nice to see that they have expanded their inventory.

Did you check with them about stock? I spoke with Reeftopia earlier in the week about an order and they were really low on stock because of Isaac churning up the water around the Keys. sealifeinc is also located in the Keys.

I'd love to get in on the order but I'd spend enough in gas driving to Syracuse to place my own order.

Yeah, they have tons of stock, at least for the items I'm interested in. I've been emailing with them about a few items over the last week. Fritz, I will happily babysit gorgs while you're getting things running. The handful I got from them last time have all been doing wonderfully well and growing despite a few big hiccups in my system that killed other corals. These photosynthetic gorgs seem bulletproof, it's too bad they aren't pushed more readily as beginner corals. Loren, no prob for you either, I can float the bags and keep things happy.

I'm going on vacation in two weeks, would you guys be OK with scheduling the shipment immediately upon my return? That would make it the week of September 24. I'd prefer that so I don't have to teach my tank sitter how to deal with problems in quarantine. We can place the order sooner than that, to get them to hold the items, if we're worried about them running out of things.

Bumping back up to see if there is more interest. I am going to go ahead and place my order soon, for shipment the week after next Tuesday (arrival on Wednesday the 26th). Still plenty of time for others to get on board!

Once I place my order I will post back here with the group buy name so the rest of you can get in on it.
