Hi All,
Hope you reef-chemists can set me straight.
A couple of weeks back, when doing a sizable water change, I finished off a bucket of normal sea salt. A friend gave me a bag and a half of reef crystals. I used the half bag to make up a portion of the water change. The salt was a little bit blue in colour, and a bit lumpy..... my buddy assured me it was fine, so on faith I used it.
I've just made up another drum of water for another water change. about 60 gals. But its been sitting now for over 2 hours and is still really cloudy and there's a bit of scum on the surface. To me, it looks dodgy.
I opened the other sealed bag - that too is a bit blue coloured.
Please comment ..... seems like a risk not worth taking - but I'd like to know what this could be? I may well change from reefcrystals to another mix on account of this experience, if I can't explain it.
FYI - my tank seems a little cloudy since I did the previous water change.
Cheers.
