Yes you can get them off, urchins are strong though, just don't get stuck.

You can easily peel them off. Urchins won't grab you either.


Only thing to worry about is hurting the urchin, breaking it's spines.

You can usually remove a tuxedo's stolen objects by just carefully peeling them off. He'll let go once he realizes that you have a stronger grip.
Try putting bits of rubble and shell around on the rockwork for him to pick up instead. They need camouflage to be comfortable, so he'll keep grabbing things until he gets stuff you'll let him keep.

Mine likes to carry empty snail shells. They serve a dual purpose in providing empties for my hermits.

You can also put things on them on purpose. Set something on them and they'll grab it. You can give him Lego weapons!
