Ive mentioned this reef a couple times in coastline and in other threads. I finally got around to posting it up. This is the nicest public reef Ive ever seen in person.

W/ Sarah for size reference.

There was also 6-8" below and above that isnt visible directly. They had some volley ball sized plate corals, and some foot long clams down there. Only one pic came out because of the thick curved glass. its got a few nice sized plates and a smaller one in it.

Heres the same stuff with a 10" tang swimming by.

A couple different angels to try and capture the depth, which was especially hard, again because of the curved glass/acrylic.

This was in a cool room too. It was at one of the gift shops for one of the rides...Atlantis I think. It was Feb so we didnt go on the water ride :p The room had an aquarium in the floor and the cieling. Because of the dim lighing in there, I had to use the flash, which washed out the glass, but here is the only pic that came out.

Derek, I was really dissappointed with SW on that trip. Three years ago when I went they had a building that was about the size of Ripleys, with all different kinds of exhibits. This time it was gone. They had some new resturaunt there

The only good thing was this tank as far as reefs go. The penguin exhibit is cool, and they have a pretty cool shark/ray tank set up. That was about it. The shows are always cool (if you like cheesy stuff), but it was BIG let down that the main aqarium building was taken down. None of the shirts/media there called it "The Sea World Aquarium" any more, which I thought was how the dang place originated. Ill probably never go back.

If you are into rides and stuff check out the Adventure Island park. The spider man ride was the coolest ride Ive ever been on, and Im a big coaster/ride guy. The Super man was extra fun too!

Dave, 3 years ago when I went there was a guy in there answering questions. I want to say they had 1000w 20ks on it, but I forget how many...or if that is even exactly correct. I can say I was totally impressed with the growth between the two visits. Most of those large SPS colonies were the size of volley balls when I went the first time. This time you can see some of them were three times the size of basket balls. Ones that were soft balls and tennis balls are now volley balls and baskety balls :D

I really like deep tanks too. My next house will have a 4x4x12 tank in it :D Of course it will be a loooong time before I move :p

I am thinking 4 wx3hx10 l for mine. All glass. Set up like a peninsula. :) I am really going to do it. I told Kelly before we got married to be prepared because one day I would spend $15,000.00 on an aquarium and that was part of the deal.

 Mine will be a penninsula/divider too. I may opt out and drop it to 3' tall as well, but I dont want to be thinking smaller right now....if anything longer :p

From what I understand, and you are the engineer, it is the height of the tank that determines the thickness of the glass to a large degree. I shudder to think what a 4 x 16 long pain of inch thick glass costs.

Its definatly the height that determines the thickness.

Anything over 8' long is worth shuddering about ;)

You could do a 4x4x8 tank with 4 standard sized pieces of glass. The 3' tank could be thinner and possibly save some cash, but youd be throwing glass away, or building a totally over built 12" deep sump :p
