Hi,

I wanted to know if the Seaclone 100 protien skimmer is any good? Is it worth buying for a 55 gallon aquarium?

Thanks in advance!

nooooooo! I think most reefers have have a sea clone as there first skimmer.......let us save you the $ and trouble, if your on a budget go with the coralife 65 or for a little bit more get a EuroReef

Don't waste your money if you want i have 2 a 100 and 150 all yours (I'll pay you to take them j/k)
they make great reactors lol

I bought one as my first skimmer and it was the worst skimmer I ever had. I would never recomend anyone buying them. There are alot of other good skimmers out there some even cheaper but work so much better.

Junk! Sorry but it's the truth. It was my first skimmer and they are complete crap. A step up would be a Red Sea Prizim but they arn't fantastic either. A friend of mine put a Supper Skimmer 220 on his 55 and it works great for the money. He went overkill incase he upgrades. I run a Euro Reef and love it. Your Skimmer and your Lighting are the two things you shouldn't go cheap on.

The SeaClone was my first skimmer and it was by far the WORST skimmer I ever had. I had to mess with it almost everyday to get something out of it and even then it was still crap.
I'd suggest getting either the Coralife Superskimmer 65 or the next model up(125?).

I have a 150 and no amount of tweaking can get it to skim properly. I did finally find a use for it however. I now run Ozone though it. I figure why take the chance of messing up my good skimmers with ozone. :)

I had one on my first 29 gal and it actually worked fairly well. They will only pull out wet skim, but that is what I wanted. I wasn't trying to grow SPS so my shrooms and zoas didn't mind it. I only had two fish, a pair of percs, so the load wasn't high.

I got a cup of dark tea colored skim in 2 days. No I don't use them on my tank now, but how much do you have to spend? There are better, but get what you can afford and what you need.

To be fair, they work better in sump with a constant water level-- once you get it dialed in, don't touch it.... very touchy-- I never got it to work well HOB, but it worked good for me in sump-- IMO it worked nearly as good a my aqua C Urchin (standard)-- just harder to find the sweet spot...

If on a budget... I'd get a CSS 65 or CSS 125-- alot more bang for the buck then the seaclone.

If you have a sump you might be able to find a cheap octopus NW skimmer~ Couple of easy mods and you are good to go
