Seaclone skimmer mod

G'day. Just wondering if anyone has a writeup of how to modify the seaclone 100. I went to a recent reefclub meet and a fellow member had a demo setup of a modified SC100. That thing could skim. It had two intake pumps on it and I could tell that the neck in the skim cup was modified. I would like more info. on a step by step or a good informative picture.

Thanks

take off collection cup, take out O ring, pull out large riser tube. Get dremel and cut the smaller riser tube. You will want to take off about 1 - 1 1/2 inches of the small riser tube. Trimming the collection cup a little helps also. Making these two mods alone are enough to juice up a SeaClone. As far as the valve goes, mine worked very well after I made the mods mentioned above. There was no more tinkering with the valve to get the skimmer to work, it works like a champ.

Every once and awhile I remove the SeaClone from the tank and blast a ton of parts with the garden hose and it seems to work a little better. JD

Also look at the venturi that connects the sponge to the power head. A lot of times, the cut outs that water flows through are not trimmed properly. This restricts the powerhead's flow. You could use a dremel or knive to crave out the excess plastic.

Be very careful when cutting the riser tube. Most thread say to stick a wooden rod down into the riser tube and to try and wiggle it free. Well, I did that and it snapped at the bottom. So I had to then make my own riser tube which wasn't easy and it didn't work well. So I decided to drill a hole in the top of the collection cup, and put a rigid air line down thru the skimmer and put two wooden airstones on it.

Pulls great amount of gunk now. I'm in the process of researching drilling the collection cup so that I connect a drain line to it. I'm sick of emptying it every two days.

Here is a picture of the cup after a couple of hours.

It works better than it did before so I am happy with it. Still is a piece of junk. I broke the tube that the maxi-jet was hooked up too. So I had to replace with this bulky black rigid tube. Plans of changing the tube are coming soon.
