Just wondering if anyone had had any luck with Seahorse.com as far as livestock goes. I've heard a lot of good things about seahorsesource.com but I like to keep my options open....THANKS!!

Seahorse.com, or Ocean Rider, as they are often reffered too, seem to be in it more for the money, and have several mis-informations on their site. I, personally, would not order from them ever! Seahorse source...VERY good livestock, I have talked to the owner (it's a 3 person job over there) and he breeds and keeps all of the horses with 2 or 3 other people. His prices are very reasonable, and he makes sure that your horses are in tip-top shape before getting shipped out, and will help you thru anything.

Reefwidowed,

I have ordered from Seahorse.com (Ocean Rider) and was always very pleased. I received beautiful and very healthy stock.

My oldest ones from them are about 6 years old and still going strong.

I would advise you to do as you are thinking and check all the available cb sources and keep your options open.

Brock, it's fine to have a preferred source to purchase stock but to continue to publicly slam another successful business is really not fair and is distasteful, imo.

A customer of ours ordered from them a few weeks ago. All in all it has been a bad experience for her. She is new to seahorses and called them several times to confirm her system would be ok. They told her they were live arrive guaranteed and 14 day guaranteed. Against our advice but following ocean rider's advice she bought 4 of their H. erectus - Mustangs and sunburst I think - for her 12 gallon nano.
They came in very ill she called them and they told her it was her lack of technical experience rather than the sh being unweal. They died in QT that night. When she followed up with ocean rider they told her they didn't have time to deal with her.
She was very upset and came to us for help. I called as a hobbyist and they told me it was her lack of techical experience that killed these sh and that she should be ashamed of herself. I honestly couldn't believe it.
It seems to me Brock's observation is right on. But hopefully other people have had much better luck since they are still in business.

It has been 3 weeks since I recieved my order from Ocean Riders. The 4 horses I recieved are doing great, eating like pigs and have kept their color. I have ordered from 2 other vendors and I think that the SH from Saehorse.com are the best looking and also the healthest. I don't believe that they told someone that a 12 gal tank was ok for 4 SH. All of my contact with them has been very good and if someone reads all of the info on their site (more info than any other vendors site) they would know that a 12 gal is to small.
Also the following is taken straight from their site "Live arrival guarantee applys for the day of arrival ONLY!!", no where can I find any statement about a 14 day guarantee.
I am not trying to start trouble but the previous post just doesn't sound right to me.

I didn't find out about any of this until after the sh passed. I got on the website and said all the same things you did.

This is a good customer who was heartbroken about the death of these animals. I don't believe she made this up. It appears that the people she spoke with on the phone also lacked experience.

I'm not standing up for the customer. I couldn't believe she thought she could keep any nonetheless 4 H. erectus in a nanocube.... but that is besides the point.

I spoke to them as a hobbyist (they did not know I was affiliated with a lfs) and I was 100% respectful and nice. I presented it as what should she do next time. And they couldn't give me the time of day.

From what you and others on rc have said their product seems to be top notch. Maybe its just them lacking customer service?

Perhaps the information given to her was misunderstood. I know that there's been occasions where I've been told one thing and heard another. This could've happened when she originally contacted them.

OR has given out misinformation on several occurances. They make it a habit.

It does seem like they are doing better then they have been in the past, but I was left burnt after my experience with them. JME

Jenny,

I was simply answering a question that someone posted. If you have rather me lied, and someone end up getting unhealthy seahorses, that's your opinion. I don' think you should "continue" to publicly bash me by saying that I am "not fair and distastful".

I don't see how I am "continuing" to "bash" any "successful business". You have your opinion, I have mine.

Seahorse.com is a wierd fish (tm)

Either you love them and have a wonderful relationship, or they rip you off and treat you like a criminal.

It appears random.

Their seahorses are 99% of the time good quality and healthy. They are more expensive, and the shipping from Hawaaiiiii appears to be more stressful than mainland shipping.

The biggest issue is customer service.

Perhaps they roll a dice with each order, and all 'odd' customers get scr3w34? There is a volume of negativity about seahorse.com, that can only come from real people having real problems.

If it were a one horse race, I would say you have to take your chance, but there are many players in the market these days, so selecting a breeder who has good reviews would be more sencible. If enough people did this, Ocean Rider may hide the dice when processing customers orders.

Well I Love Oceanrider! All of the seahorses i have recieved from them have been VERY healthy and in great shape they all ate like pigs upon arival. Also, I have found their customer service to be of great help. They have answered to many of my problems and their forums have provided great information. Also, their prices are not that bad conisidering all reoccuring customers get a discount, and all orders come with live volcano shrimp and ogo. I would say that their indevidual seahorses are not cheap, but their package deals are not bad.

That is why I have a hard time recommending them unconditionally. I wouldn't pay extra for the fancy varieties, as they've been known to ship plain horses that "carry the pinto gene" but don't actually have the pinto markings, etc. That's like selling a black lab that "has a rottweiler gene" as a rottweiler!

My experience with Ocean Rider (Seahorse.com) has always been positive. The horses or other livestock has arrived quickly and has been healthy. I've had good experience with their customer service. But I've seen too many people really treated badly to give them two thumbs up.

So, do your research (like this thread!!) and make your own educated decision, then you can live with the results knowing you made the best choice for you.

Yes, but it can also go to your favor. For example, I have ordered mustangs in the past and been sent sunbursts at no extra charge

If I order a product and get a different product, I call it bad customer service, not good. JMO. For awhile they were sending out barbs instead of the species ordered as an upgrade. If I wanted an erectus, and they sent me a barb, I'd ask for a refund. JMO.

I have had bad experiences with them myself. Not a fan. There are just better horses on the market IMO. They might not carry the same high price, but just because you pay more for something does not mean it is better quaility, just that the price is higher.
