hey everyone, well i just got my second seahorse yesterday. he was doing fine for the entire first day (eating, floating around, etc) but this morning he was completely gone!

i doubt it, but has anyone heard of a seahorse jumping out? (i checked the floor just in case but nothing)

how about a seahorse getting sucked into the overflow? i also doubt this b/c the teeth on mine are pretty small and narrow (maybe 1/2" wide). (i also checked the sump and nothing)

any help appreciated. thanks!

They can change colour, so check if they arnt matching the colour of the rock/sand etc or if they arnt under or behind anything.

It is possible for them to get stuck in an overflow if the flow from the box goes over and not just through the teeth.

I've never heard of a seahorse jumping.

I'd check the rockwork myself, probably your best bet IMO.

I have had a seahorse get stuck in the rocks IME and need to be freed. He was there for two days so I took the rocks apart to let him out. The rocks had been setup like that for a year. Go figure.

Sorry your a Dodger fan, that must be hard. Maybe they'll start a government program and get you guys some free councling. Kudos to you for sticking with them when such a far supperior team is so close by.

haha, you crazy los angeles angels of anaheim fans..............jk

yeah ive been looking through the rockwork for quite some time and still nada. i really hope he pops up out of nowhere

I'd start carefully moving stuff around at this point. JMO

Ya the name change was kinda lame, you won't find many Angel fans that like it either. Born and raised in Anaheim, kinda ****ed they changed the name. Like 4 times in recent years they changed it.

still no seahorse.............

well it seems to be good luck for the angels. when they changed their team from blue to red, they won the WS. and now the new name change and all red home uniforms, they are the best team in baseball. so maybe change is good..........

Seahorses can't jump, not very well at least. They can color change on a whim and blend in pretty well. If they are small or not well they can get sucked into or against the overflow. What are it's tankmates? How much flow in the tank? Anything fast or aggressive could have scared it into hiding. You do mean swimming and not floating, right?

What else is in the tank with the seahorses (fish, corals, inverts)? It is entirely possible that something in the tank got to it, or that it died and your clean up crew took care of the body before you could find it. Then again, sometimes I can't find one of my SH and really it is hitched right in front of me under an overhang doing an incredible job of blending in. The only worry with that is that if they are in the 90, and it hasn't been trained to a feeding station yet, you won't be able to find it to target feed. If you don't have other aggressive feeders in the tank, you may be able to put some live mysis or live ghost shrimp in the tank and see if that entices him out of hiding.
