Seahorse ID

Can anyone identify this sea horse? LFS is selling it for $18 thought it would be better off in my hands than the LFS if I bought it. Currently in a 10gallon tank in the store. uploadfromtaptalk1403384330573.jpg

Too small to be able to sex or determine species. At that size the survivability would be in question as highest losses occur up to point of sexual determination.
Price would indicate it is NOT a true captive bred seahorse as they will be many times that price.
If you have no prior seahorse experience, then it is not a given that it would be better off in your hands than theirs. Seahorses will also do better in numbers rather than singly, but one can always try a mirror to simulate another seahorse.
Have you already researched the special needs of seahorses?

Yes. I set up a macroalgae tank about three weeks ago in the hope of ordering some later in the year, but since it is wild and not sexable I'll pass on it. I would like the keep the tank as disease free as possible until I can get some captive ones.

A macro tank in itself is not necessarily something that will suit the needs of seahorses, and needs to be more mature than 3 weeks anyway.
I applaud you for holding off on this purchase for now.
Minimum tank size for standard sized seahorses is 29/30g for one pair, with an additional 15g needed for each additional pair.
Best chances of success would be with over filtered, very much over skimmed tanks, with more frequent water changes and cleaning than for a reef tank.
This helps limit the damage and deaths caused by their affinity for bacterial infections, especially if you keep the temperatures between 68° and 74°F.
