Seahorses w/ Fluval FX5

Hey Guys,

In the process of upgrading my seahorses from a 40 gallon to a 75 gallon. The filter I will be using is a Fluval FX5.

Looking at the slits in the intake basket, I think they may have the potential to grab a seahorse.. Especially babies if they spawn in the new system.

I have no plans to go with a different filter, but thinking about pulling a foam block in the intake basket to restrict the possibility of the intake getting any seahorses..

What are your thoughts

Thanks

I have always used a HOB type filter for my seahorses because I can use a sponge or foam "guard" on the intake. I have found sponge filters with the right size foam. If you don't have that I have used a nylon sock and I have wrapped with filter foam, depending on the filter and what I have on hand at the time.
