Sealing a concrete/ mortor tank?

Pricey, but made specifically for your problem:

http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/3326/Fish-Pond-Coating

this looks exactly what I'm looking for. I think this will be the choice. Some of you got some cojanas, I just can't take a chance that it "should" work, it "must" work.
Has anyone used this before? It has neoprene, anyone use that before?
They also say they reccommend primer, can I use regular primer, or should I use their primer they sell?

Damn, this site has everything, looks pretty good. Can someone do me a big favor and tell me what they think I should use for the whole process? Cause I also found this http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/3050/Epoxy-Concrete-Sealer-by-Sweetwater
so I am not sure if I should use a multitude of these things.?.?

Thanks all

aquatic ecosystems is known to have good products and experience in what you are trying to do. They are not always the cheapest way to go, but they offer support and good advice that others will not give. I have been happy with the stuff I bought from them.

If you look at the tank at atlantis marine world they used concrete then coated it with a spray on lining (like truck bed spray) called polyurea. look into that project, sounds like what you are trying to accomplish...

Does anyone know where I can get G4 pond sealer in USA? It looks like a great easy to use product, like an end all be all.
There are many places that sell it but there all in the UK using euro's.

Is it on their atlantis marine world site? I am looking but cannot find it. Do you know what kind of polyurea it it, apparently there's a bunch out there?

One problem I have with the spray on coatings or epoxy paint, is that any shift in the concrete joints will cause a leak.

For those that think concrete will never shift, just look around at your foundation or driveway..... Any "coating material" will fail with a simple ~1/8" crack.

My suggestion of a plastic liner/membrane was just passed over & not even considered.

I guarantee that a welded plastic liner will far outlast ANY coating, UNLESS the coating is put on something that "floats" independent from the concrete, especially in the corner joints...

The problem is that concrete is not pliable and is prone to cracking even under design stress & strain. Concrete WILL crack, that is why they put joints in your driveway so WHEN it cracks it still looks OK.

Sorry, must have accidentily missed it. But, you have sparked my interest. What kind of plasic liner/membrane are you refering too specifically?

So if/when the concrete shifts and if I use the epoxy paint (a few coats), the tank will no longer be water proof? but with this plastic liner there is better chance that it will? There will also be some direct sunlight on it.

My LineX guy just changed suppliers. I spoke to the Supplier directly and he said that most truck bed liners are not 100% polyurea, and when they cure, can foam up slightly, creating little popped bubbles. These can be weak spots in the coating for water to penetrate.

He only recommends 100% polyurea (like Bean has for years now, BTW), which is somewhat flexible (Stu), and cures in seconds. Check out the blast mitigation section of LineXs website, btw, for how well it sticks to concrete.

You would pay through the nose to get their spray rig to the house. Barring that, I'd go with the Sanitred. Dow Corning 795 silicone will stick to almost anything, and could be used to re seal the panel.

I have used the Hecht rubber from AES. Very nasty stuff, but it worked well. You DO need their thinner to get it workable. I'd go Sanitred before the rubber again.

OK,

How about a compromise? Come up with a flexible joint: FRP, PVC , or pondliner that spans all corners or places that are likely to crack.
Glue these "joint spanners" down with the DOW 795 Silicone
Now you could use the Sanitred to coat everything.

Stu, Not sure that is even needed. I hear what you are saying and definitely agree that expansion needs to be accounted for.

Flexibility:

"This video sold me on sanitred over epoxy years ago:
http://www.sanitred.com/videos/files/vid1.mpg
Theres another video somewhere showing the same test with epoxy and it just blew the seam.

If I could get a spray on that was half as flexible I'm sold. I think we need a smidgen of flex for , well, flex I live in earthquake country you know..."

From this thread: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showt...58&perpage=25&highlight=sanitred&pagenumber=1

H20ENG, nice video...you got all rialed up now... I don't know what to use. If epoxy is going to crack on me with the cement when it cracks, I'm screwed.

where talking about permaflex right, a sanitred product? Because there are three others. There site recommends using 1 coat permaflex (as a primer), LRB/TAV mixture (which is there other products) used to patch holes, joints, and seams, then, as a top coat a final layer of primaflex. What do you think?

have you guys used this stuff before?
