So i just got this frag a week and a half ago. Placed it at the bottom of my 90g after i Bayer dipped it. The last 4 days i have noticed these white spots appearing. Only thing i have done is a 10g water change, added Fluval Phos remover, and that was it. Could it be bleaching seeing how it has been in a dark box for a day, then my dark sump for day 2 during shipping??

Thanks for your help. I purchased this frag from Cherry Corals.

Do you have any other SPS in the tank? If so, and if they're not having the same issue, I doubt it's the phosphate remover. Have you tested your phosphate since adding it?

I have a chili pepper monti and it seems to be very sensitive to high lighting. What kind of lights do you have? You might try moving it to a lower light area and see if it looks better.

Yes i have many other SPS in tank that are not doing this trend. No i have not checked Phos since i put in the remover (going on 4 days) 2x150mh 14k and 2x96w PC's dual atinics. Placement is already on the bottom, ill try a shadowed area next.

It's actually pretty light. Why were you using Phosphate remover? Getting rid of all the phosphate in the system is not necessarily healthy...

Dope-I have a bad issue with hair algae and bryopsis i'm battling.

I've found those phosphate remover type tools are absolutely useless for bryopsis, you have to fix the issue that's driving it and then start with Kent Mg. I fought it for years because I set up a tank in a not very maintainable way. It was a huge pain to clean the skimmer and tons of detritus was building up in the sand. Getting rid of the sand during water changes was a great help. Then finally when I went to a new tank without a sandbed and raising the Mg just slightly killed it off permanently. It's been about 6-7 months since I've seen it.

Ive tried peroxide twice, and im going to try Zeovit next. I'll look into raising Mg. Thx

Tried peroxide, ended up killing one of my favorites. Kent Mg is a known solution to bryopsis, there are a ton of success stories. But if you don't get what's creating the dirty water under control first, no matter what method you try, it's a waste of time and money.

The color looks good, although take a good look at the spots. You may infact have a nudibranch issue and did not kill them with the dip. They tend to gather and destroy under the coral, therefore you will notice the white spots on top. Try using a flash light at night as some with gather on top of the coral. Hope this helps. I had the same problem with my tanks awhile ago and could not figure out why the coral looks good but had white spots all over.

I had same experience as laxman5. Hope it's not them. If so you have to crank the bayer way up or it will not kill them. It will however stun them so you can remove, eggs must still be brushed off or scraped.

True, I added a yellow coris wrasse just to keep my montis healthy in case i missed some. I was worried about some spreading to the colonies but this little guy snipes them out. Just a natural way to keep things in check. You dont want to have to take a foot long Monti cap out to treat it:fun4:

Most MEN will not start eating from the middle. Most start from the edge and lay their eggs there. Then they wait for the babies to hatch and feed on the rest

You could always Bayer dip it to be sure. It won't kill eggs but it could help. If u do, I'd do 10ml per cup for 10-15 minutes

Constrictor, if you would have read this post, I dipped with Bayer when I put it in. I love that stuff.

Just found this thread man, like I said I doubt it's bleached even after being in the dark for a few days remember " it's not always sunny at the beach" now that I see the pic I see a few grains if sand on the frag I've lost tissue on monties befor from sand settling on them for a few days, just a thought
