Sebae in a reef?

A Sebae is a very difficult species to keep. Do what the serious nem guys do. See if you can put down a deposit on it and keep it at the LFS for a while to aclimatise. Look at the mouth it should be closed not open or saggy. Don't try to feed it when you get it home. Do some reading on the Clownfish forum to get an idea of it's requirements. RBTA's are the toughest most forgiving nems. Keep in mind that many anemone's are demanding to the point that some require a species specific tank (often times for just a single nem). I am not a nem authority but I have had trouble in the past with Sebaes. I have been keeping SPS since around 1990, but I still have trouble with anemones.

This one looks OK and I am not trying to discourage you. Just do some homework before you pull the trigger...
 
Sorry posted too late. Don't put clowns in until that anemone is adjusted. Whatever you do don't get a Saddleback, they are known anemone killers taking the food from the nems mouth aggresively. The anemone hosts the Clownfish not the other way around. Clowns provide zero benefit to an anemone in a closed system..
 
Thanks Neil, I will see what happens. It looks pretty happy now. It's mouth is closed and it's opened up so I am confident.
 
The anemone pictured is an H. crispa, and not an H. malu.

It isn't in bad shape, but isn't in great shape either. Its tentacles are a bit shorter than they should be -- a sign that it has been consuming itself for energy.
 
Didn't know that, thanks. It's tentacles were much longer at the LFS so I think he is still getting used to the tank. I am planning on moving him to an area with higher lighting.

*do not move it- let the anemone move on it's own
*clownfish DO NOT help the acclimation process- do not introduce fish now
 
Oh, and in the picture, I know it looks white (crappy Iphone picture) but it is really tan. It doesn't look bleached.
 
how is the sebae doing? id really like to see an update on how you are taking care of it if you still have one. nice sebae!
 
It's doing really well. It honestly looks more like a LTA than a Sebae now (but it is). It is about the size of a freaking volleyball and is hosting a very territorial black ocellaris clownfish. I will post a picture later, it has really become the center (right oriented) piece to my tank.

what you are havin now seems more likely to be a crispa, rather than malu, whose tentacles can be very long
 
Yeah I suspected that. I have to wait for the lights to turn on, I don't really have any good pictures right now.
