Second annual club garage sale?

Old School Reefer
Last year we had a pretty successful garage sale, where many club members brought in their unwanted dry goods, tanks, etc... we all had a pleasant day and made a few bucks... and more importantly got rid of unwanted stuff! I hosted it in my garage (I think I'm one of the few members with only two cars and no stuff in the garage... that's because I have a barn).

Anyway, if there's enough interest to make it a go for year two, I'd be happy to host it again. My house is in north Memphis (just a few blocks from I-40 Exit 6, Warford St.). Let me know!

Jay, I had been thinking the same thing, but I was going to see if the shopping center would let us use the parking lot either out front or in back. I thought we might setup a grill and cook hotdogs or something for everybody. I was also thinking that we might need to have it more often, like every 6 months or so. everybody collects extra treasures in this hobby and sometimes you just gotta make room.

I would assume that the hours would be like 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Or a little later if we are still cooking the dogs
Any weekend is fine with regards to the parking lot.
How did we pay for the ad in the want ads last time? Did the club pay for it or did we take up a collection from participants? We need to make sure it is under the fish section this year and maybe do it a couple of weeks in advance. Is there any other way we can advertise it for free?

I personally think the frag swap and sale is way too big a job. It is all the club can do to have the frag swap. We will probably want to have the sale prior to the frag swap.

May I suggest Saturday May 31 as the date, beginning at 8 am in the parking lot next to Memfish? We don't want to have it on Memorial Day weekend in case people are out of town. If there is substantial agreement to participate on this date, I suggest we start a new thread with items that people will bring. Please reply below if this date is good for you and we can start the ball rolling. Andy, do we need to get official permission from anybody? Are we limited to the parking lot or can we set up on the sidewalk?

I already have permission from the landlord.
I think we need to stay in the parking lot in front of old Whole Hog Cafe.
I think we don't need to advertise what is being brought that way more folks might show up if they think treasures await. Also will keep the pre-swap/sale stuff from happening.
Who is responsible for ad?

Good idea about not advertising all the stuff, although we might want to announce a couple of "big ticket" items in the paper ad or on craigslist.com. We might just say aquaria and fish supplies. (but I don't want to say there will be aquaria there if no one brings an aquarium). I can post the ad on craigslist and in the paper... I'll run it by you guys first.

Now, who else is coming if we make it on May 31?
