Sediment Particles in Rock

When I setup my new to me tank I had put my rocks in before filling the tank up. I was trying to keep my rocks wet and worried about losing the bacteria. Well that caused a lot of crude and sediment to settle in the holes of the rocks. Can I take my rocks out and shake them in a tub with water during a water change? I used a power head and a sort of hosed off the rock to see what it would do and a lot of stuff came out the rock. Clouded the water up, but then everything more or less settled back down onto the rocks and sand.

How is it setup? You could do that and it would be quicker but if you pull it out and rinse make sure to use saltwater to rinse. If you have a sump you could add a filter sock and use a turkey baster to blast everything outta the rocks and the filter sock would catch most. Would take more time but the bonus is you wouldn't have to pull the rocks back out. If you glued them like many do that would be an even bigger hassle.

I've been using a thing that came with the tank that resembles a turkey baster. Think it's used to feed corals. I've been using it like a blaster like you mentioned, but it doesn't really hold much water. I then use my diatom filter, but seems everything settles back down before most of it goes in the filter.

I would plan to use water from a water change, but I know I wouldn't be able to take everything out (rocks with coral I don't think should be shaken).

All my rocks aren't glued. Haven't made it that far.

Yes.. pull rocks.. blow to remove excess detritus.. return to tank..
you will not blow the bacteria off the rocks...

Thanks. Didn't think about using the power head in the rinse tank! That prevents needing to shake my rocks that have coral on them.
