See Pictures - Help me choose a location

Hi everyone,

There are 3 locations I am considering placing a saltwater tank.

One location is along a wall. This could house a 180 or 220.

The second location is where you see the white cabinets. Those cabinets could be removed in favor of a 150H tank or even a custom tank to exactly fit the dimesions of 52x37

The third location is in where my two couches meet in an L. I could remove the end table and place a 36x36x36 cube there.

My wife and I really would love to hear your opinions. All 3 locations could support plumbing into the basement. We are thinking mostly a fish only tank and live rock but possibly a few corals.

OK, since no one else has said anything i will put in my 2 cents. Anyway, the 36x36x36 cube sounds interesting but that is a awfully deep tank and would make lighting and maintenance a chore. Moving the white cabinets seems like to much work. The 180/220 along the wall seems the best choice. :bounce1:

Ditto, Keep is simple. High maintenance ends up being no maintenance. The long wall would make a nice display.

The cube would be great though. You and your wife would have two great spots to sit and stare at the tank with it against the couches. Simple can be better too.

I pulled my couch from the wall and put the tank in between the wall and couch, cant see stand or anything under the tank, it looks cool. Otherwise id say go for cabinet area its the easiest GL

I like the cube idea, you'll a great viewing area there. I second the too deep theory though. I have a 30" deep tank and that's a pain to get down there.

I vote for the long wall. The cube tank may be a bit noisy that close to the couch and chair, and I'd leave the cabinet/shelves alone.

I like the along the wall, just make sure to that little door into consideration, and that heating vent.

Take care if you are going custom size too, because light hoods come in various standard sizes. If you go custom (like I did) things just don't fit right and it's a nuisance to do the workarounds, and can get costly if that is relevant too.

Along the wall. That would give you area for a nice big tank and it seems the easiest.

Thanks for your replies. My wife and I cannot come to terms for the location. We have been trying to decide for weeks now. I've told her the project cannot progress at all until a location is chosen.

Anyways, I'm hoping to put the tank along the wall. A nice 180 or 220. She doesn't want to move the piece of furniture that is already there. It's a battle I'm hoping I can win.

We tried an experiment. I told her to eliminate 1 of the 3 locations and I will do the same. The result was that she eliminated the wall and I eliminated by the couches. This leaves the book shelves. The dimensions of the area of the bookshelves could hold a 150H tank.

I'm still working her over on the wall though.

dude, I would say go with the location your wife wants, even if its not reasonable, because no matter what she will be always complaining about location you pick, even if she will like it as well. Honestly, I think you should put it inthe room where you spend most of your time, or the spot that is more noticable

You might want to keep in mind that a high traffic area, or an area that you might be dissrupting nitetime light cycles with a late nite movie, might be regretful after set-up. Also the "noise" facteor should be considered, although mine is by my sofa and doesnt bother us at all. Sometimes we are up late watching a movie or TV and the tank is illuminated by the screen. Some fish get irritable because of this.

Do you like the looks of the shelves if not great reason to move them. The cube would be nice but is kinda deep. Make it shorter and it would be perfect.

PUT A CUBE BETWEEN THE COUCHES! That would be sweet! Lighting wouldn't be a problem on a FO tank. Plus if you're plumbing it to the basement there wouldn't be that much noise anyway!
