You are going to have to forgive my ignorance here as I have been out of the hobby a few years now (5-6). My last system was about 1000g. All of the equipment was basically custom made at my own specs as I found all equipment sold at the time to be incredibly undersized, inefficient, and overly expensive for what they were and did.
My old skimmer was a prime example. I had a 6' tall 18" diameter skimmer made ran by a Dart pump with a needle wheel that was custom made and air fed from a larger air pump as it required massive amounts of air to be fully saturated. It still drew very little electricity compared to ome of the other larger skimmers of the time. I saw the later on Reeflo started making their own needle wheels. Are they still making those BTW?
I am looking at some of the systems here and I don't see the larger skimmers we were all making a few years ago? So, what are the popular ones being made and sold these days for systems 700g and above?
Same goes for lighting. I was using 5 x 400 MH in addition to about a dozen+ VHO actinics. LED was something spoken about, but was a few years away then. I see a bunch of them being used more often now. Have their PAR come up and their spectrum come closer to MH now? Which are the "good" set ups available these days? What type of LED should I be looking at or looking for? With these many set ups available, I am sure Sanjay has already tested a few. Anyone has a link to an article?
