Seio or Tunze

I have never used a Seio. I have owned multiple tunze stream pumps and have always been happy with them. The big advantage i see to them is being electronically controllable and having the larger sizes available. Also Tunze is a top of the line brand with top of the line reliability and customer service. It was always an easy decision for me.

Instructions for Installation:
Submerse pump in water and secure in desired location.
Plug pump into a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) electrical outlet.
If there is too much flow, unplug the pump and remove the large Intake Strainer (Part #9) and adjust flow accordingly. Reassemble and plug back into the GFCI electrical outlet.
The flow can be directed to a different location be rotating the 120Ã"šÃ‚° Directional Discharge.
To use the Venturi Control (Part #8), rotate counterclockwise. When using the Venturi Control, the use of an Air Silencer is recommended.

the sios are just slightly better then rios when it comes to reliability. iv had two of them lock up in a tank with nothing but saltwater and crushed coral. also there flow isnt all that great.
btw by locking up i mean they kept blowing my gfi as soon as i plugged them in... go with tunze company has better service and a better history

They're really different products.
The Seios are nice `stream-like' powerheads. Lower power use, wide flow so the volume seems more gentle than a small-diameter output powerhead.
The Tunzes come both controllable and non-controllable. The controllable ones are nice as they can be run singly or integrated with the controllers to run at varying power. You set a minimum, a maximum, and a speed - and the PH goes from 400 - 1800 gph every few seconds [or however you set it]. Multicontroller offers these options + quite a few more to vary/integrate/etc multiple devices.
Tunze also makes non-controlled streams ... not that much different than the Seios - but IMO the controllable streams [or turbelles] varying output makes it a different product than the `constant flow' powerheads that look similar.

Basically, a quarter inch turn opens a slotted gate for more flow and closes for less. Frankly, I didn't see or feel any difference. I spent $40 on the 620 and thought wow - tons more flow than the maxijet 1200's. I'm sure it is pushing more flow through it and it's just dispersing it better, but I wasn't particularly happy with the results. Especially after customer service at MD said, "you shoulda got a Tunze."
I had vowed to save my money and get a Tunze. Then I thought if I was going to spend $300, I should lose the power compacts I have and get T5s instead. Then I'll get the Tunze - though I should really get the new skimmer instead. Then I thought - :rollface:Don't mind her. Her internal monologue will go on forever.
I'd skip the Seio and get the Tunze.

Also just wanted to make sure you were clear on the difference between the controllable and noncontrollable tunzes.
In the 1500 gph range there are two pumps
6060 - Not electronically controllable. It runs the same speed all the time and can not be used on a wavemaker. If it is it will ruin the pump.
6000 - Electronically controllable with a tunze controller (purchased seperately).
If you have specific questions you might ask roger (rvitko) in the tunze forum. Roger is always helpfull and willing to answer questions! He is one of the reasons i love Tunze equipment.

If you can afford it get a Tunze 6000 or 6100
Without the controllers, there's no point to gettting aTunze.
The SEIO well they're hit or miss. Some have great experience with them while some have problems starting right out of the box.
If you're somewhat DIY gifted or handy you can look into doing this. It's better than the SEIO as there is no restarting issue and can be used on a wave timer. Oh and did I mention CHEAP? I'm getting 1600-1800gph out of my MJ900 using this mod.
