SEIO Powerheads

I have two SEIO 820 powerheads.. got it last week.

This week I was doing my water change. Apparently, when I turn off all power and turn it back on, the SEIO's did not turn on themselves.

I had to put my hand in the tank, shake the powerheads, and did this for a LONNNG time till I did it right and then it turned on.

this is TOO inconvenient to do each time I do my water change.

anyone have experience with the SEIO PHs?:mad2:

unfortunatly yes. It seems to get abit better as they get older. I use a toothpick to stick in the front to get it back spinning again.
My 620 no longer does it and the 1100 does every once and awhile.

same here. The longer they run the less this will happen.
Mine are about 8 months old and they turn on everytime now.

Mine are a pain too. That's why I'm replacing them with Tunze streams.

WOW, so im guessing this is a known issue and RIO should be aware. But they didn't try to improve on it. sux.

so basically I should ride it out and hope for the best.. i mean they do have a nice flow. its just the to get it turned on again.

has anyone tried calling RIO to see what they say?

I have two 820's and never have a problem with them starting up. Shut them down every time I feed. This is the first thread I've seen with this being a problem for the Seio's.

I have 5 in my 125g and 1 in my 75 and have never had that problem with them. Guess I got the good batch to

Yes, tons of people are having problems with all the pumps made by TAAM. I know alot of people who have complained to them, including me but I didn't get a responce back from them.

well i have their #. i will call them today and see what they say. i couldnt get thru right now. its 10am where I am. not sure what zone they are in.

Let me know what they say I have a graveyard filled with Taam products.. I use them for everything but they do not seem to be very reliable.
But I was warned by the LFS when I bought them that they are the poor mans' Tunze Streams.

Does anyone else nodice of how you have to clean them often or the flow will decrease alot? I clean mine about every 4-6 days. I'm shocked my rio 1700 I'm using as a RP is still running and hasn't failed once.

I am part of the good experience. Two 820 for 2 months and no problems.

I bought 3 820s and haven't had any problems with them not starting, though they can chatter a lot when they first start. The quality of Taam products isn't the best, but the price was right. They were definitely well worth my money.

I have a 620 and 820 that I bought the very first week they were available in AZ about 2 years ago and have no problems with them. Tolerances are a little tight when new but once they break in they start every time. I clean mine once every 4 to 6 months is all and they seem the same both before and after other than looking squeaky clean from the vinegar.

I have been running 2 820's for 5 months. One never restarts without being manhandled. The other restarts maybe 1 out of 4 times. I have taken to never turning them off. I just turn off the return pump for feeding DT's, and that's it.

been running 2 2600's for a few months. never had a failure to restart. but i've heard that the larger seios are more reliable...

i have also noticed the cleaning issue (reduced flow) but it's not as extreme as weekly

ok so it appears to be a 50-50 thing. no one has any tricks to turn this back on after power is gone?

I've had 2 820s for around a month, no problems with restarts here either.

I think that not restarting is a good deal higher than 50/50. There have been many threads on this and failure to restart is very pervasive. I find that my 820's will often restart if I lift it to the surface and let it sucks in a mixture of air and water. I don't think you can beat the flow for the money, which is the only reason I bought them. Tam pumps have a bad reputation, so the fact that these often don't restart just goes with the territory. You can't expect them to perform like a tunze for this kind of price.
