SEIO Powerheads

When you take the front bottom cover off to make them look "Tunze style" I have heard you can loosen that cap next to the writing that says"low->high" and get more flow. Everytime I try to do this it becomes very loose and will eventually fling off the entire cover exposing the blade. Is there an inbetween to adjust them?

I threw away two 1500's already. They had restarting problems from day one, and eventually they both died.

I run mine "tunze style" and the flow is greater than when in the casing to begin with. I don't think losening the collar could cause the flow to be greater. It doesn't increase RPM's, or remove the very minor obstruction of the plastic channeling bars in front of the impeller.

I currently have 2 620's and one restarts fine while the other always need some coaxing. I have unscrewed the front on several occasions of the latter one and pull it apart (2 pieces) only to have a bunch of floating organic material shoot out when the pump restarts. As long as they can continue running, I guess I can deal with this.

mine quit after a few days in a tank with only saltwater

one peramitly danmaged the gfi somehow and i had to replace it

iv heard of them getting better with time
but mine burt out and wont restart( guess they locked up for several hours and coils went bad)

anyways... bad company.. they havent ever called me back or helped ( i tried 7 or so times befor i gave up)


i may try them again someday as this took place a year ago and they may of changed

I have same problem too, but only on 1 seio the other work great. I think it's just your luck, there are people that never have any problem and there are monay people that hate RIO stuff.

I guess I was with the good I have two 820s with no problems what so ever. And I really think its better than 50/50 for them working someone want to start a poll?

ok so i called them and they were pose to call me back but never did.

anyway, another thing i noticed is that tiny bubbles are released even when the air knob is closed fully.

does this go away slowly or what do u guys do?

Ok and I am sure all hundred percent of the ones that were happy would take time and be on here to vote. I still say there are a lot more folks happy with the much cheaper seios than not

im sure theres alot more who wont even try them because of the companys history

i mean its time for alot of people to try them again
like me im giving taam one last chance before im done with them forever ( oruntill it changes ownership)

I will say this the only time that anything has ever gone wrong with them is when I had them to high in the tank. They have a great suction which would cause them to get a nice funnel going. This would in turn reach down to the power head and spin them out, when they broke suction. I moved them lower in the tank and have yet to have any issues. This would also cause the microbubbles as well, just look at the water surface and see if it is swirling just above the powerhead if so move it down a little lower. This is when they are run without housings. I will say my biggest complaint is I broke one of the rubber suction cups putting them on but it hasn't hurt the performance. I would rather have tunze but i would also like to stay happily married.

Running 4 820's here for 18 months, both start 100% first time with no problems. I also have them on a 10 minute cycle with 0 crrossing soft-start X-10 controllers and no issues (even if you aren't supposed to have them on timers).

I had to put my hand in the tank, shake the powerheads, and did this for a LONNNG time till I did it right and then it turned on.

this is TOO inconvenient to do each time I do my water change.

Treat this like any pther product. If it shows up and doesnt work, SEND IT BACK. The only way rio is going to do aything is if they have a lot of pumps coming back. Just complaining isnt going to do anything. Send them back, and get new ones that start.

Mine have always worked perfectly, no problems, 100% starts. 2x820.

I have had some ( 620's, 820's 1500's ) that never had restart issues and some did. I have noticed as they get older ( if you can put up with it ) that the restart issue does seem to go away.

I have 2-620's that have never failed to restart. I only clean them every 5-6 months or so. I have heard that loosening the ring on the front helps, but I don't have any firsthand experience.

mine restart everyday. never had issues. Except 1 time I cleaned them. I put the cap back on to tight and it stoped it from restarting. I loosened that endcap some and it took off. So be sure your restarting problems isnt just having those caps on too tight.

I've had 2 620s for about a year. They had some restarting issues when they were new but they start first time every time now. I couldn't really ask for much more for the price. I like them.
