Nope just a regular AC timing motor. This thing is actually very easy to DIY

A swirler-stein coupled with a maxijet-stream mod an awesome combination IME.

I just did the Maxijet mod where the snout is cut back to an oval so the flow changes direction as the pump cycles on and off on a wave timer. Screw the stream mod, this is way cooler and didn't cost a cent. With 2 maxis on the timer and 2 small Seios running full time I get a pretty caotic flow. The Maxis dont reverse direction every time the come on but it is pretty close.

If you have ever seen a maxijet-stream mod in action you would not have said that :)

But anyways.... Back on topic. When is this ever ellusive controller from Taam coming out? Is this thing officially vaporware yet? Sheesh.

I have and would rather have the shifting direction of flow.

I've been following this thread for a while now but can't recall seeing anything here as to why the controllers won't work for the 820s? Sorry if I'm being dumb here.

Also, I realise it's been covered here that SEIOs can't be used on wavemakers, but...... the April issue of Brit magazine Practical Fishkeeping carries an ad by SEIO where they claim they can be run on a wavemaker. What gives?

No claims needed here. I maintain a tank for a customer that has had his SEIO's on a wavemaker for over a year.

After seeing that, I decided to do it at home. I have had my 2 820's on a wavemaker for months now and never had any issue whatsoever. They work fine.

On the other hand, I have a brand new 620 in another tank and that dam thing will not ever start on it's own after unplugging it no matter what. I have to disassemble it and spin it several times to get it to work again.

So I guess I can say that SEIOs are the best and SEIOs are junk all at the same time.

Back on topic, I too wonder why it could not be used on an 820 since that is what I have on a wavemaker.

I will vouch for it too. I have been running my 1100s on a wavemaker since mid January. About a 45sec to a min on and off. No problems. However, I couldnt do it when I was still dripping kalk though. I have only cleaned the pumps once since.

According to SEIO, the method that they are using for the speed control only will work with the 1100 on up.

We all know that.....The question is Why?

Deuce 67, Reefneck.

What brand of wavetimers were/are being used. I'm intrigued.

I re-read the ad just to make sure and it clearly states.

"The pump is ideal for all marine and reef aquariums and can be used in conjunction with a wavemaker. Using the wavemaker and the pump in this way will create water movement around your reef aquarium."

If I can scan the it and post today I will do, but the above is verbatim from the ad.

Odd that Taam have been so adamant in replying that they cannot be used on a wavemaker and then advertise that they can in a UK magazine.

BTW just wanted to add that I am a big fan of these pumps and have never had any prob with these or the numerous Rio pumps that I use on my aquariums.

I'm using the Aquarium Systems "Natural Wave" power strip style wavemaker on mine.

I use the Blue Line Tsunami for over a year and a half with two seio's with no ill effects. They do click a little sometimes restarting though.

Maybe it's because the UK uses different voltage and frequency than the US.
