Seio`s Multicontroller

ok well to answer any and all ?'s about these controllers owrking on the maxijets. well they do work on them at high speed but when you bump down to low speed the maxis make a rattling noise and some of mine fail to spin all the time, but when they go back to high speed they work fine. I thought these controlers were supposed to ramp from 100-50% not jus step up and down.

i have a brand new controller for sale in the equipment selling forums if anyone is interested.

BTW, I used a power strip and hooked my 2 maximod 1200s to the controller along with the 2 1100's, and the controller ramped all 4 pumps up & down. It seemed to work just fine, but I only let it run this way for about an hour before I took the maximods off the controller. Figure I'd just use the controller as intended for a while before I start to abuse it... Also curious to see if others try this & what kind of results are seen.

No chattering on your maximods? Zapata are your maxis 1200s?
 
The box says do not use on any other powerheads. I'm sure this will end up being just like all the threads about using the seio's on other wavemakers and them not working.


FWIW thereefstop.com has them on special for 119.

I had no problems with my maximods on the controller making noise or not spinning. I have the maximod 1200s, with the large dumas prop.

Currently, as I mentioned in my previous post, I am not running the maximods on the controller full time. Just did the short 1 hour test, but then removed them from the controller.

Why is there a warning saying the controller must be mounted upbove the aquarium? I want to place mine out of site under the cabinet.
 
I have read the warnings previously posted along with the warnings from the manufacturer, has anyone attempted using these on the Tunze 6060 or 6080?

Big chance to take on that. Tunze stated that they recommend 15 minute intervals at most for the Tunze 6060 and 6080. It's cheap to replace a Maxijet pump if something should happen but would you want to take the chance of having to replace a Tunze?

My assumption is that since the pumps are not actually being turned off and then turned back on like most wave timers, that 15 minute interval would be unnecessary... It's only a theory, I will it give it a go with my 6060s after I get my 6055's in Jan. or Feb.
 
Do not you think if Taam intended them to be operated on other pumps and it did work. Do not you think they would have used that to market and sell more units?
and what happens if you burn out plugging in different pumps? is a going to be a return. These boards are to educate people to use product properly and better the hobby we all enjoy. Better just use all products for it intended use.

And what would be the fun in that? ;)

I have not used one product from any manufacturer that I didn't think the design could be improved further or find other uses for the same product.

That's why we have people using Chauvet DJ lighting timer unit as wave timer. Or people modifying Maxijet pumps to be Tunze Stream like. Or....

Trying out new things and tinkering is what drives innovation in this hobby IMO.

Keep us posted on this. My only fear would be that the ramping up and down of the motor could cause it to overheat and an early demise of said motor. Not entire sure how the SEIO controller is achieving this but maybe it will be ok in the long run to use with other pumps.
 
I think all of us that try DIY solutions or modify retail products to gain better performance understand that by doing so we are assuming certain risk.

I have modded my maxijets to make them into stream pumps
I use dowflake (de-icer) for my Ca supplementation
I use baked baking soda for my Alk supplementation
I use pickling lime instead of kalk
I've hacked some of my mounting brackets to make them work for me
etc, etc...

This is the value I have gotten out of these boards....

You say "These boards are to educate people to use product properly and better the hobby we all enjoy."

whereas I say "These boards are to educate people by sharing new ideas, sharing testing results, possibly saving money by using a DIY solution, and to better the hobby we all enjoy".

And yes, you're right...if I were Tamm, I would put a disclaimer that the controller should not be used with other pumps, since they did not test them on other pumps and they don't want the liability issue. But, that does not mean that the controller will not work with other pumps...just that you are on your own when going down the unexplored path.

That's why we all post here, so we can share our results to make the unexplored paths known to all :)
