Seio`s Multicontroller

Once again, can we debate the start or not start in a different thread and save the e-mail updates we all get for the controller that this thread was intended for?

Thanks.

Hi All ,

Not sure if you all know this yet but Taam released their Polario pump at roughly the same time as the Seio Controller (run some searches on Polario Pump) 3 x models from 8000lph to 40 000lph. These units can be plumbed in a closed loop and offer alternating / surge type flow. If you don't own any Seio's M1100's or > then this is a somwhat niftier gadget to buy.

I'll agree with that. I have 4 different 1100's and 2 of the 820's and my 1100's always fail to restart after a power interuption without banging on them. The 820's restart every time.
You should of seen the hammer that I had to use on my 820.

But seriously, may be a stupid question, but would a contoller have any affect on the life of a seio.

Ok boys and girls ..ITS HERE I saw it online at Champion lighting $169.99 is not bad.. they advertise it as only ramping down 50% ??

So let me get this straight.......this doesn't work with 620's? If so that sucks becasue I run 2 of them in my 50g. Should have just gotten 2 maximod 900's and run them on a wave maker. Anyone got any suggestions for me? Not enough money for Tunze.

Not too dredge up old news, however I have to agree with Grim here. When the Seio's where just coming out, there were a lot of discussions in the reef club about them so I just emailed them. Got the president on the phone, who is also an engineer, and he filled me in.
At some point in the past, the TAAM partnership broke up, and the Rio site was somehow taken by the person who left. That explains why there is no Rio .com site like many manufacurers have, and the one they have is non-standard.

Second, I was told that Rio has a large market penetration, both as Rio and as re-badged products for all sorts of markets. Competition is what it is, and stories of oil-filled tanks killed by crappy Rio's never seem to die. Strangely though, there are no pictures of such, and there was at least one court case about exactly this that was dismissed. Rio's apparently do not contain oil, but an epoxy. I wouldn't be surprised if there have n'tbeen some failures and death, but it did sound like there is a cut throat world of spin and mud slinging with respect to some of these tales. And that isn't something unusual, nor would the other manf's be upset to see that.

TAAM has extensive R&D and testing facilities in SoCal, and aside from their pumps, they have some significant light testing equipment and development.

I've had one 620 or 820 not restart once or twice, however I honestly do not know if it is because it hadn't been cleaned in a long time, or if I had simply cranked the screw-on cap way too tight after cleaning one. I also wonder why MJ's seem to have an almost mythical reputation, but have also got now 2 of them that have died or broken the ceramic rod.

I think TAAM has had to overcome some bad press, some real and some manufactured. However, they are innovating, bringing new stuff too market, so at least they are doing something.
I like MJ of course, but what have they really done since the MJ1200 was brought out?

Would be nice if we could get a bunch of dead ph's, and have someone rip them apart and give a run down on what they find inside, both materially and from a design standpoint.

Kudo's for the MJ-mod, but I found a link that I read years ago on putting a propeller on a powerhead, and here it is:

and

and from Advanced Aquarist:

Not as pretty as the MJ mod, but interesting that its from 2002.

[QUOTE but if you look at taam history. they never care what teh consumer wants

( god knows if you buy it and have aproblom you wont get any help from taam)

yea they have probloms. but they help you way more then taam does

i think TAAM should get a sponsor fourm here on RC it may help there customer service a bit

Have you actually ever tried to contact TAAM about a problem? The people I know of that had issues and bothered to contact the manufacturer (instead of *****ing and whining) had their problems resolved.

I ended up with a Hyperflow pump not realizing it was a Rio product. I had the pump lock up after a power outtage (better than 9 hours before I found it, no meltdown or tank crash. The pump wasn't even hot) and e-mailed them a question about whether or not that was to be expected. I didn't get an e-mail reply, I got a phone call. They asked that I not take the pump apart to fix it, they asked me to send the pump to them so the engineers could look at it. They sent me 2 pumps for my trouble and sent me the original back after they looked at it.

Not only did they try to make it right for me, they were also interested in examining their product to figure out why it failed. Since that time I don't warn people off Rio pumps any more. I had great luck with the Seio I was using on my system.

One thing I have noticed about a number of the supposed Rio tank crash stories is that nobody ever seems to have a picture of the oil slick and when they are asked what the company said they usually say "oh I was just so mad I threw the pump away and cleaned up the mess". Now I am not saying that Rio pumps never fail or that they have never killed a tank but I guarantee you if I had a peice of equipment massacre my tank I would have pictures and you bet your butt the manufacturer would have heard from me about it. I think some of these stories are just people jumping on the band wagon. [/B][/QUOTE]

I was talking to a guy that does maxi mods and has done the same mods on a couple other powerheads. He suggests not using a modded pump on a timer because the maxi is bi-directional. He says the stops intended to prevent the pump from running backwards is not effective enough.

That's not true at all. I have used my mj mods on wave timer previously without any issues. It's all in how the mod was built IMO.

This guy's stuff looks pretty good and he lost a sale (actually 3)by being honest about his concerns about the wave timer.

Great post badpacket,TAAM is allways coming out with some nice and inovative products.

I have several SEIOS and yesterday I pulled one out of my JUNK box(not junk but kept for a rainy day box) and had a 1100 in there. It was never cleaned out full of dried up guck and calcium deposits plugged it in on my prop tank and flawlessly started up.
TAAM has most definitely improved there pumps.

On the SEIO Controller it has been a month now that mine are up and running and one word FANTASTIC nice chaotic flow.

Do you guys think that two 1100s on a controller is too much flow for a 58 gallon 36"x18" SPS tank? Thanks

JCurry: I have 2 820's in my 45g softy/lps tank and may end up moving 2 1100's into it for more flow (i have 2 1100's in my 90g that I may upgrade & then move the 1100's to my 45g).

IMO, you should be fine with 2 1100s on a controller in your 58g. Don't forget that the seios can be adjusted to reduce flow, so that's also an option.

hth,
rob

i have a 90 gallon reef and i just bought the controller today it will run to 1100s so i will post what i think of them later tonight

and my pumps restart everytime

But ya know that controller would go nicely with a more reliable pump like a maxijet-mod perhaps? :D

I too am interested on its price tag.
been away, has anyone ever tried this with your max streams?

I tried to read the thread but I want to make sure of one thing. Can one controller alternate flow on two pumps or does it just ramp both pumps up and down at the same time?

from what i read, it only ramps them up and down at the same time - creating more of a surge effect than a waving effect - still more beneficial than constantly ON. I plan to use mine with the two M1100s I already have in my 110g - and also use a SCWD for directional flow on a mid-sized pump.

well i just hooked mine up and it is a great product. The actual controll box is much smaller than it looks in pics, but mabe its just me. It is very easy to use and i do recomend this product.
