selecting new rock

I am considering changing my rock in my SPS tank, as I redo the tank. The rock at the local store looks like this.http://premiumaquatics-pavinthewaysoftw.netdna-ssl.com/product_image/asp_pa/232x240/7603.jpg One note also I am concerned that the quantity of Bayer dip and previous red bug treatment may have contaminated the old rock.

It looks like nice rock however it has a lot more pores than the previous rock. My concern is that it will be a haven for detritus with all the hole is it. It may also be great for pods to live in.

Any thoughts.

Don't bet on the exception unless you are willing to do everything that they are... exactly the same.

Porous is better and works for most people. See if you can get some Mandano - always nice. I got some Punaki that was nice and light, but a few pieces were really heavy. Tonga branch/fusion is also usually really good.

If you have a healthy tank with nice live rock (not plugged up with dead gunk), then microfauna will keep the rock nice and clean.
