selling dslr, opinions on an advanced p&s

So I'm going to sell my Nikon D50 and smaller sony p&s, I just don't like carrying around two cameras. I also never take the d50 anywhere because it is just to bulky, and the sony just doesn't give me the controls I want. I'm looking at getting a more advanced p&s that gives me some manual controls. I think I have narrowed down to two models: canon powershot G11 or the smaller canon powershot s90. Does anyone have any expierence with either of these. The s90 gets better reviews on both cnet and on b&h so i'm leaning towards it.

What do you guys think?

thanks

The panasonic is out of my price range and the olympus is just a little above. I'm not making large prints or anything so would I really notice the difference in picture quality? I just the camera for general pictures and fish stuff. So I don't know if I could justify spending a couple hundred more.

I think image quality is generally noticeable, but it depends on how much you will actually care about it. Most of the cameras in this price range will give you acceptable results. A tripod will probably help you out with tank photography more than a more expensive camera.

I already use a tripod for tank pics and currently don't have a problem with tank shots. Now there is plenty of room for improvement, but they are good enough to get me by. I'm just looking to trade in the d50 and the sony p&s for one better camera that will get me by.

If you are looking at micro 4/3 cameras with excellent image quality, interchangeable lens, manual controls, and compact, check out the Panasonic Lumix Gf1. Especially if you have some spare nikon lens that you dont want to sell, you can easily get an adapter and mount it to the GF1.

i use the canon s5is which i believe is a similar but older G11. Works great and with the CHDK firmware hack you can do lots of stuff even DLSR's can't do (i think).
