Selling octopus & setup

I have too many tanks to take care of, so I am selling the octo and his entire setup. The octo is an unknown species, but I am sure it is not a blue ring nor a dwarf. To the best of my knowledge, I believe it is a Caribbean octo. He eats 1 crawdad per day (along with anything else you care to add to the tank) Whatever supply I have on hand when sold will go with him. I buy his crawdads at Super Cao Nguyen Supermarket, on approx N. 23rd and Military. They cost $2.99 / lb. I usually buy 20-25 crawdads to keep and feed them out daily. So far, I have never gotten more than a pound.

I believe his tank is a 37L. It measures 36" wide, 12" deep and 16.5" tall. With the stand and light, the whole setup is 46.5" tall.
The stand is a regular 36" pine with a door. The top is an entirely closed glass hood, and the light is a regular 36" flourescent. It also comes with a powerhead (for bubbles) and a fluval 204 cannister filter. There is approx 1/2" of white sand on the bottom, and it is filled top to bottom and front to back with live rock - if I had to guesstimate weight, I would say at least 75 lbs. There are a few mushrooms, moon polyps and some caulerpa on the rock.

I would like to get $250.00 for the entire setup. I am not interested in selling the octo separately, or any of the various parts. I may not be back online today, or much this week, so if you're interested, please call me on my cell (405) 816-4918. I am off work today, so will be available all day long.

Well, over 50 lookers and not a single call or comment. He went over as such a hit at the meeting, I figured he'd go fast, but apparently he's too expensive.

If you're interested at all, please give me a call or shoot me a PM, and we can talk. I'm probably light on the amount of rock in the tank, but even if it is only 75 lbs, that's still just 3.33 / lb for the rock only. The tank, stand, light, filter, food, and octo would be free.

Well, I couldn't take pics last night because of the glare from the windows, but here are a couple of early morning pics. The first is of the full tank and stand. If you look closely, you can see how full of LR it is. The rock is much older than the tank (which I bought new when I got the octo in Feb). Most of the rock came from my 5 yr old seahorse tank when I moved them. It's not all covered in coralline algae, but it's definitely live, having been wet for over 5 yrs now. If you look on the far right glass, you can see Fluffy, sound asleep, with not a clue he's having his picture taken.

This pic is a pic of Fluffy. If you don't like the color, don't worry, those are his PJ's, and he's almost never that color when he's awake. Most of the time he's a deep burnt red color, unless he's annoyed or eating, then he flashes all sorts of colors and patterns. For size comparison, he is underneath a regular sized powerhead.

Youngsilver, I know you're (eventually) going to read this. You know Kyoto would be awesome to have an octopus..... *hint hint*

lol I dont think he'd fare well in a reef setup

Yeah as if the wrasse and puffer weren't enough trouble lol :)

But the wrasse nipped at the Ray and the puffer ate anything that moved....oh....wait a minute...what were those moving shells in there? ;) :lmao:

To his credit, he's never bothered anything like corals or caulerpa. He HAS eaten everything live I've ever put in the tank, which includes green chromis, goldfish, guppies, cleaner shrimp, ghost shrimp, snails, hermits and his daily crawdad.

He is actually pretty entertaining to watch, provided you like to watch in the evenings when he's awake. He doesn't hide much, and is out and about quite alot, surfing along the sides of the tank, checking in every crevace and nook and cranny. He's not in the least bit afraid of your arm in the tank, and has been known to creep a little closer for a better look. He's also been known to try to slip out the side while the lid is up and you're otherwise occupied. Luckily I keep a close eye on him while I'm in the tank, and saw his intent before he actually got more than a couple of legs over.

His eyes are actually the most intriguing thing to me. They are somewhat catlike. He doesn't actually have eyelids, but the pupils open and close like a cats. In the pic above, you can't really see his pupils. That's because he's asleep. When he's awake, depending on how much attention he's paying to something, his pupils dilate. If you have his full attention, they're quite large.

That pic is in one of his annoyed outfits. I had been taking several pictures of him, and by this stage, he was ready to climb on out of the tank and eat me if I didn't stop using the flash.

Which I did, by the way. How would it look on my tombstone?

"Here's lies April - eaten by her own octopus, who was annoyed at her for taking flash pictures of him - RIP"

Not good.
