Semi new tank question

Well the poly pad is now almost a royal blue, So I will do a water change, clean the pad and see what happens.
Matttaylor, what is a large amount of carbon?
Right now I have a magnum 500 running that has the center part of full of carbon. Is that enough

Well I'm glad to hear you figured out the problem.

But what is wierd is you said you had your water tested at Your reef and there were no signs of copper?

Is there stuff still ailve? if you still have your old tank i would move everything back and start new with this tank. This is just my opinion.

BUt if that LR has been soaking up that copper for a while i think it will continue to just leach copper in the tank

Yes I did test at YR and I also tested it at Coral Reef shop. The fittings must have been leaching just enough minerals into the water to kill off all of the other life in the tank. The only still alive is two fish, clown and a niger trigger. I am at a loss here too with the testing.
Rafael had also mentioned something about copper a few days ago, that is why I tested it. Two different test kits done by two different shops showed no signs. Weird, but Murphys law rules in this house.

If the poly filter is already blue then you must have had a lot of copper in there. There is a possible reason that neither store was able to find copper, copper has 2 forms chelated and nonchelated. The majority of test kits are unable to detect both.

If there is that much copper in the water then i would go ahead and replace the sand and rock. Don't take the chance. How many fittings were brass? And how long were they being used? I wouldn't expect for that much copper to end up in the tank after only a week or so.

The tank had been running for about 3-4 months. It must only be trace amounts if the detection kits couldn't pick it up. the brass fittings were on the outlet of the pump, and two barb connectors for the return line tubing.
I am searching for some new poly filters right now, figure I would do a water change, get some cuprisorb and change the poly pad and continue with the ploy pads. The poly pads are my only true detection methods at this point. Pricey, but will be worth it in the long run.
Matttaylor_CHP? Good for you! My buddy was in it for awhile and loved it!
