Seperate aiptasia from zoanthids?

Any suggestions on how to rid this rock of aiptasia? I would just remove it as it is the only one with them on it but there are 15 orange zoanthids scattered about it in groups of three or four that I would like to keep. I thought about cutting or breaking the rock but the problem is when they retract I can't tell the zoanthids from the aiptasia.

Can you put some putty/epoxy near the zoa groups to distinguish them when they close? Like make a little ring around them or something.

Now this^^^ sounds like an idea. I will figure out some way to mark them. I think a dab of putty near the group should do it.

I plan on doing just that but the problem is when I pull the rock out of the water and everything closes up they all look the same. I think I'll just throw that particular rock out after I remove the zoa's.

my lfs sold me 3 peppermint shrimp on sunday and all aiptasia are gone i cant believe it

If you would like, I can send you some very awsome Berghia Nudibranchs. The only food they eat are Aptaisia. They will colonize your tank and exterminate all of your aptasia and then you can seperate a colony and add a rock with aptasia on it to keep them going or they will die off after there is no more aptasia to eat. They are they sps hybrid that can withstand the high flow. I only require you to pay for the shipping. The nudibranchs are free as long as I have them to give. PM me if interested.

There really is nothing near me. Aquatic Technologies in Strongsville is the closest place and it's an hour drive. There is someone on ebay that always has a bunch of cool stuff listed with local pickup in the Girard area.

It's crazy....when I was on a cruise we stepped out on one of the stops at the rocky beaches and we saw big huge aiptasia speciments (size of a nickel) ....bigger than what we normally see in the aquarium stores.

kalk paste?? I've heard that works really well.

with that many, make a thick paste of kalk and cover them with it. done, gone.

I had a lot aiptasia interspersed with zoos that was clearly harming the zoos.

When I added a Chelmon marginalis and a lot of large peppermint shrimp, the aiptasia were all eaten and the zoos are thriving again.

Reef Master was kind enough to give me 5 aiptasia eating Berghia Nudibranchs. They seemed to start eating the aiptasia right away. We'll see how it goes. If they can't keep up I think kalk paste and peppermint shrimp is next on list.
