September 13 collecting trip with LIRA and Atlantis Marine World

We are happy to announce a members-only fall trip to Riverhead, Long Island, for a livestock collecting trip and special tour of Atlantis Marine World. The date is Sept. 13. Juvenile tropicals come up the coast of Long Island at this time of the year, brought along by the gulf stream current.

The trip will have 3 parts, and you can join in any or all of them:

1) The collecting trip is with the Long Island Reef Association. Low tide is at 1:00 PM Sept. 13, so that is the meeting time. The thread on RC for this trip is in the LIRA forum.

2) We will have a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium on Saturday morning. Atlantis Marine World has one of the world’s best coral reef exhibits, with 20,000G of reef stocked with live corals and hundreds of fish.

3) If we have at least 15 people interested, we can do a club sleepover at a building in the aquarium complex on Friday night. It will be similar to last time... bring your sleeping bags and sleep on the floor.

Things that you may want to take:

Snorkle, wet suit, net or two, buckets, bags, cooler, camera, extra clothes, "MONEY", heat packs, and any other odd thing related to fish LOL. Sleeping Bag, PJ's, snacks, and tylenol for the headache you get the morning of collection from drinking a little too much the night before. hehehehehe That is actually for me, I didn't remember that last time.

If we stay the night before, bring your singing voice, because the bar next door does Karaoke. Believe it or not, we got Sanjay in on the singing! We had a blast for sure.

Scott can we get an update on the total amount of people going. I think we are close to having enough for the overnight stay.

For anyone not going to be spending the night you are welcome to car pool with me. I plan on leaving early Sat. morning. Rick says he knows some great spots for snorkling so thats my plan for the day.

I figure one or two people and we will still have enough room for a few full buckets.

Hi gang, right now we unfortunately do not have enough for the sleepover, by a big margin.

Interested in sleepover are Sanjay, me, Rick P, Diego Santos (member), Michelle Lemech and tbundy (that's 6). Coming but not to sleepover are Larry Flint and wife Jennifer, and Carl C. Complete maybes are Jon Kenyon, Bill King, and BucknellReefer. We'd have to get a big bump to have the 15 for Friday night.

A week ago I emailed/PM'd everyone to get commitments, but I haven't heard back from tbundy, Jon, Bill, or Bucknell Reefer. If any of you read this, please email or PM me with your contact info and to confirm if you will be able to come.

Thanks, this will be fun just on Saturday even without the stayover! We have two leads on motels for Friday night that I will be emailing/posting about ASAP.

I think that will be close with Diegos family as well as Scott F's Family.

Family members would count towards the total count of 15 we are looking for, to make it worthwhile for our host.

I need to know soon, since I am leaving for MACNA early Friday morning, and I would like to have this all settled before I leave, so people have time to make plans.
