you mentioned the need to check the alkalinity of the salt you use. what do you do if the salt you buy has too high of an alkalinity? what can be done to adjust it?

It's never been higher than what I would consider to be a danger. My alk runs around 10 a lot of the time, so a 20% water change where the alk is about .2 dkh higher would only raise my alk by about .4.

I'm not sure how you'd get the alk down. If a bucket tested crazy high, I'd try to get my money back!

I've had several buckets test out at 13dkh. I didn't use them. Not really a problem now that Tropic Marine sponsors my project but I was curious about what to do.
