Into the overflow... So basically into the socks. It seems to be fine in the tank too. The only coral I find doesn't like it is the sunset mili... less polyp extension..

Hi Adam,

very impressed yr reef tank. have one question only abt the powerhead you are using. for the size of your tank the 4 vortech MP10ES are enough to produce the internal movements ? why dont use the MP40 ?

Adam,
Congrats and well deserved.

Question: what can you tell me about that huge turquoise stag? Scientific or common name?

Thanks,
Adam

There are 4x mp40's.. They didn't show up in the article for some reason. I'll look into it.. The Mp10 is in the frag tank..

Hi Adam,

thanks for yr reply well noted that the vortech was MP40. I have more or less a similar size of tank (5 feet x 24 x 27) but only one MP40 intalled I am try to buy the second one soon to place it in the opposite direction. these powerheads are very powerfull. I think 4 voctech will create a lot lot strong movements. I am trying to keep a mix reef corals, SPS, LPS and soft . I know the vortech can be adjusted the speed.

Great tank Adam!
I noticed while reading the article that you drip fozdown and it got me thinking about it being more cost effective and i started doing more research i finally started a thread and its going pretty good but can you please when you have time read the thread and let us know your dosing/mixing and honest opinions thank you very much

Adam, stunning tank!
Growth and colour are amazing.
Do you have a deep sand bed or fuge or do you rely completely on fozdown and skimmer for nutrient reduction?
Also, you don't mention nitrate in your write up.. Where does it usually sit?
Your system reminds me of Darryl Vanaker's amazing old tank for the growth and colour you are getting..
Congrats!

Thanks so much! Darryl's tank was insane! Some of my pieces originally came from him, through another hobbyist to me.

No fuge. Just the Foz and skimming.

I don't measure nitrates. Every time I buy a kit (every 4-5 years or so), I test once, get a reading of 0.0 and then the kit expires. lol

Awesome tank.

Was just curious as I have a 180 gal tank aswell and had problems with over heating this summer. You say you use a 1/4 hp Ecoplus chiller and I was wondering if it is tied into your apex controller and approx how long does the chiller have to run to drop the water temp down a degree or whatever you have it set to turn on then off?

Sorry, no build thread, as I didn't build the actual stand/plan the plumbing etc. Credit goes to another hobbyist who sold my all of his equipment.

Since the tank is in my garage, I am able to keep the temp under control just fine with the 1/4hp chiller all summer. I have it and the MH ballasts on the other side of the wall so the heat is not in the same room. I think the chiller comes on and off constantly. It has its own temp sensor, so no need for Apex.

Wow, I usually know of the great looking tanks...somehow I missed this one. :D Amazing tank. Love the mature look of your reef.

Congrats. I've got just about everything you have listed on you coral livestock list. Modivation at its best. Thanks for sharing.
