September Meeting Announcement - Coral Pests

The Good the Bad & the Ugly...

Have you ever had a pest and needed help getting rid of it, or found a critter after buying a coral or some rock,
thought it was something cool but didn't know if it's good or bad? Yeah, we all have...

Everyone should always be prepared no matter who they are buying their coral, fish and rock from. You just never know what can happen!
With a swap that just passed and CMAC coming up, lets once again remind ourselves how important it is to dip & quarantine everything...

In this months meeting we will go over the descriptions, problems and solutions of the hobby's most common coral pest.
We will also demonstrate with a few different dip solutions.

Afterwards we will raffle off dip solutions
This won't be done like past CTARS raffles (picking what you want) We will name the prize and call the ticket.
If you so chose, you can trade your winnings afterwards. You MUST be present to win.

We look forward to seeing everyone at:

If the raffles are going to be so controlled as to not letting people choose what they want then why not change the way the raffle is run as opposed to telling me what I can or can't win. How about placing say a cup in front of each item and people only put in for the item they want. Instead of dumping all the tickets in one barrel and then get told that they won the plastic bag the fish was in but not the fish because I said so. Just a thought. Your new way sounds kind of dictatorshipish!!!

The raffles sometimes take longer than the meetings themselves as most of you are aware. People crowd in the front, items get chosen by the person called after the person still trying to choose at the raffle table...

If we did the bucket thing, people would be mad about that too when someone put all their tickets in one bucket.

Unfortunately we can't please everyone but we do try :)

I think the cup idea is good for when fish/coral are up for grabs because some might not be able to take that fish or coral to a good home, so they should be able to choose if they want it or not.

However if nothing but coral dips are being raffled off then yes, be happy about what one you get.

I agree. Either let people pick the raffle item or let them choose what items (via the cup idea or something similar) they want to put their tickets into.

If someone puts all their tickets in one cup, it's their perogative.

Just my two cents. Maybe we can take a poll or vote or something?

What's the big deal with putting all your tickets in one item if that's the only thing u want. That's the way they do it at ffm and it works. I spent money on raffle tickets to hopefully win something I want not something that I was ordered to take.

Imagine that the tickets are spread out out to the big items, and there is say a bag of sand or something with only one or two tickets in it. That would be silly.

No it wouldn't the person who wants that sand would be stoked he may actually win what he wants and not a bottle of purple up

I personally think they would make more money. Because if there was a big ticket item like say a gen 3 radion I would buy $200 worth of tickets and just put them all in the light. Who cares how silly it looks the club just made $200 instead of $5.00 cuz I don't know where it's going or what I'm getting

Reminds me of the Lineatus at the May raffle!
I was the first drawn ticket but that guy was pulled out of the general pool of prizes :(

If the club did what FFM and most other raffles do, then tickets would only go into something that either that person wanted and or could care for :)

I like the cup idea as well. I think it would actually make the raffle go quicker as people would have already picked what they want and would be excited that they won something the want/can use. Either way I always have fun with the raffle but wanted to give my 2 cents.

I think a poll with options to vote on would be a good idea. I'm also in the camp of being able to choose raffle items in some manner.

Your new way sounds kind of dictatorshipish!!!

all I have to say about this by no means do I think this is acting like dictatorship.to be quite honest I don't even want to rule this club.lately my efforts to make things better has taught me a few lessons. 1not many care. 2 a lot more people are out for themselves than I first thought.

with that said I will be discussing with the board the raffle inquiries.

I think some of you may be blowing this out of proportion. We never said ONCE we would give a bag without a fish and have never raffled off purple up ever this year.

Maybe SaltyWalter's idea of cups in front of coral (because of want and care) is a better process.

Let's bring this back to the original thread please. The September meeting topic. Everyone can always email the Board with thoughts, suggestions and complaints.

Man I remember when Cato showed pics of his old tank at a meeting years ago. Then he showed pics of what was left after a system crash because of monti eating nudis. That was really too bad. Everything I added to my system after that I kept in quarantine it was a very convincing meeting. And I hear a lot of newer reefers say they dip everything and they'll be ok. But dips don't kill eggs.

Lol by some of you I believe you mean "ME" since I opened up about it. Funny thing is sarcasm doesn't translate well in writing. The bag, the fish, and the purple up were exaggerated sarcastic examples to push my point thru not actual things that took place. I still believe a different method should be employed as far as raffles go

Taping Meeting

Taping Meeting

Has anyone given thought to Videotaping the meetings? I would be willing to create a YouTube CTARS channel and posting the meeting so that those who cannot attend can still get the great info put out. However, someone would need to provide a decent camera because i do not have one.

Just a thought...

Sammy
