September meeting

Is there a c-sea meeting in September? Traditionally this has been the frag workshop.

We should have something posted soon on the meeting schedule. In the meantime, here is a brief update:

The board met to discuss the meeting schedule last Saturday and decided that in order to do a decent frag workshop, October would likely work better.

Since last year's "101" meeting received a lot of interest, we are going to pick up on that theme for September. I am going to do a brief Chemistry 101 presentation with emphasis on Calcium, Alkalinity, Mg and pH. We will have a couple other small talks along the lines of reefkeeping 101. We will also have our standard monthly raffle.

No other time line info for the year? I thin we, last years group, dropped the ball on booking the frag swap room on the right date. Did that come up?

Yes I would say that asking them a couple weeks before the swap might be considered dropping the ball. ;) We didn't want to post things until they were finalized but as soon as there is a firm date and location for this year's swap it will be posted. I didn't want to start another thread about where to have the swap and what dates like before since it gets so messy.

Tom will be working on the rest of the dates that are not already decided and we will let you all know as soon as we can. I will do my best to not let it go like it was before with TBD on several months and not knowing until the last minute.

Here is the lineup that we came up with at the last board meeting.

September 19th Reefkeeping 101 Salinity and Auto Top Offs / Reef Chemistry

October 17th Frag-Athon Educational, hands-on experience with fragging soft corals, large-polyped-stony corals, and small-polyped-stony corals. You will get to take home a frag of each coral if you participate. I think we usually have around 10 corals.

November 21st Marc Levenson speaking Topic is tentatively scheduled to be his Aquarium Photography / How to choose a digital camera

December 19th Christmas Party The club supplies the main courses and members bring a side dish or desert. Families are all encouraged to attend. Usually a larger than normal raffle, and a shark feeding just for the club

Jan 16th TBD

Feb 20th TBD

Mar 20th Tentative date for All-Ohio Frag Swap

Apr 17th TBD

May 15th Round table discussion and elections

June 19th"Touch" sharks and rays exhibit If the zoo sticks with their usual schedule for that event

Hope that helps clear things up. We are still working on details for the swap but I don't think it will take all of the next 6 or 7 months to make it final and announce details.

We thought that Marc Levenson was a fun, light-hearted speaker with a wealth of knowledge and he has 6 or 7 speaches that are ready to go so we contacted him to come back and he has agreed to make the trip up to the frigid north in November for us :)

I will start another thread soon asking if there is a specific speaker that the club members would like to see at our club so we can use the club's money wisely and to the advantage of the majority of the membership. I know there are some speakers that most of the club hasn't heard yet and it would be great to reach them early before they are booked up.

Hope to make it a great year for everyone at C-SEA!

Good luck with that ! Looks promising so far.

I'd have to say though last year was the best line up, attendance and new members in a long long long time.

I couldn't believe the amount of people at the meetings or the new sign ups.

Yep, the ReefKeeping 101 was a large crowd so we wanted to include some new subjects for this year.

I think the other huge crowd was "Touch". I hope the Zoo does it again like they normally do. It is always a good time.

The frag workshop was big, The food meeting with mantis had a large turn out too, wait so did the Tulio light meeting...actually almost all the meetings were large IMO

I think it will be a great year. Based on the last board mtg, a lot of good ideas were passed around and I think there is a lot of enthusiasm.

I think last year when great and Im not just saying that because I always win something at raffle.LOLI hope this year goes even better
I like to say THANKS to everyone on the board and everyone else
who pitches in to make it happen
