anyone using this pump?would it be a good choice for a closed loop on my 180?mostly softies with few lps/sps lotta fish.would love to get some of the powerheads outta the tank

I use it for a closed loop for a 265. Excellent flow for a closed loop, as long as there is not a lot of head loss.

I think Sequence has lowered the price of their pumps, but also lowered the quality. Most of my Sequence pumps have tiny leaks in the seals, which leaves salt creep in the motor assembly. The leaks are slow, so the ground does not get wet. Just salt creep down the shaft near the seals.

My older Sequence pump ran for 5 years with no leaks and the plastic used on the head was much stronger. I snapped the threads on my newest Barracuda by tightening it too much.

Just my experience. I currently run 9 Sequence pumps in different applications.

Ditto on what Randy said. For the price/power draw they have awesome flow as long as the head loss is minimal.

Mine sprung a serous leak after a little over 1.5 years in service.

My advice is to build a stand/shelf that can collect and direct any water in the event of a leak. That is my plan for the next setup.

Also agree with Randy and Chris about lowered quality and leak propensity. They do run quietly.
Customer service could be improved.

What was your customer service experience ?? When I called about my leak, they offered to send me a kit to repair it or I could ship it in, they would fix and send back. Because I had already purchased a repalcement pump, I opted for the kit. They even sent me 2 kits, since I had 2 pumps.

It leaked badly after only a month or two. The pump was defective, and they admitted this saying that a poorer grade of plastic had been used that caused these failures. Still I had to pay for shipping (more since I did not have a backup and had to do it overnight). Since it was a manufacturing defect, imo this expense should have been paid by them. They did not respond to my complaints about the issue.
