Sequence Reeflo Orca 200 Skimmer!!!

Jeremy - Greetings :)
I sent you an email at your "Premium" address, but didn't get a response - hoping to catch you here.

I'm looking for a skimmer to replace a Reef Devil Deluxe that has been inconsistent and disappointing. I have a 90 gallon reef tank with a 25 gallon sump that, at this point, is more tank than reef (1 fish, few corals, 135 pounds of live rock, 7+ months old...), although I will be gearing the tank toward SPS and expect to have a "normal" to slightly heavy bio-load. Would the Reeflo Orca 200 be too much skimmer? I am really struggling to make a decision on a replacement skimmer and I'm interested in this unit. I don't, however, want to buy it if it is too much and won't improve the results I'm currently seeing.

Can you provide some insight and/or recommendations?

LUNCHBUCKET - Greetings :)
Given the information above, what skimmer would you recommend. Unfortunately, I have learned that I don't have enough clearance in the stand for the Orca 200, so I am back to doing "research"
* 90 gallon reef / ~120 gallon total capacity
* Skimmer plumbed external to the sump
* ~26 1/2" maximum height (if zero-height collection cup removal)
* NO OVERFLOWS (or adaptable to an auto shut-off system)
* Consistent performance would be nice

Thanks in advance...

I would say that is a little bit over kill for your tank. If you could put it in sump, I'd say go with a ASM G-3 skimmer, Octo NW-200 or something comparable.

BADBU68 - Greetings :)
The skimmer I purchase needs to be installed outside of the sump. Any recommendations for something that can be installed in that fashion?

Thanks...

Indy- go for a Octo rc 200, but wait till Nov. when the ones with the bubble plate are incorporated.

Any new news with the Orca 200?

JRAQUATICS - Greetings :)
I got a response from Jason Frey at Premium Aquatics and he stated that they are running a demo unit of the Orca 200 and that the retail models should be available in a few weeks. He didn't have any exact dates but said to check their website and that the information would be posted once they arrive.

I got some detail on the specs that show the Orca won't fit in my stand, which is a bummer, but it might be too much skimmer, anyway. Thanks for the information on the Octo skimmer - I will take a look and see how it compares. Is that what you run? Any pictures?

I notice that you are in Indiana - I am in Anderson, about 30 miles NE of Indianapolis...

Take Care,
Mark

I personaly think the Orca 200 would be too much for a 90gal if you don't plan on upgrading. I am getting a Orca 200 for my 180gal when it comes out. I am running a aqua Euro 135 right now on my 90gal. I have tested many skimmers on my set up. Mostly from modding friends skimmers and testing. So far my favs are the octo 200s and Das RC. I think you will be really happy with the new octo line if it fits. Did Jason have any recomendations for your set up?

I am in NW Indiana. Every out my way stop by.

Indyws6,
The EuroReef RC135 would be a nice skimmer for your size set up. It has a height of 24". Unfortunately that doesn't leave a whole lot of room to remove the collection cup but at 26" you are pretty limited:(

FYI,

The RS135 doesn't need any extra height to remove the cup. The Euro-Loc has a Zero-Clearance feature for disconnecting the cup from the body. :)

There you go Indy. Euroreef makes a good skimmer and is true to there air pull #s.

Kim,

Be nice to me now! :)

Guys.... I will try to be around the forum as much as possible, but with traveling this week, and a hectic schedule next week I will not be in here as much as I'd like to be.

Thanks,
Jeremy

All - Greetings :)
Thanks for the posts / responses...

If I am not mistaken, the RS version sits in the sump and the RC version is a recirculating unit that can be in-sump or external. My current skimmer is plumbed externally and I would like to keep it that way, so the RC version looks like the best choice.

Some additional questions:
1) Does the RC version have the Euro-loc feature? Can it be ordered that way?
2) If it doesn't/can't have the Euro-loc feature, how much additional height is needed to remove the cup?
3) Can the RC models be fitted with an auto shut-off waste collector? My current skimmer will occasionally go nuts and overflow and doesn't lend itself to an auto shut-off device. That is why I want to replace it and don't want to buy something that can cause the same issues.

Does anyone have any pictures of the RC series skimmer installed so I can get an idea of how they are typically plumbed?

Thanks in advance...

Can anyone help with the questions I posted?

Thanks in advance...

Sorry for the delay. Yes the RC135 has the euro lock feature. As far as connecting it to an auto shut-off waste collector...no it is not equipped for this. This shouldn't be an issue with this skimmer. Most of the time overflowing is caused by additives, new rock or even rearranging the aquascape..this skimmer is easy to adjust to prevent this from happening.
Kim:)
