Serial Cable

Is there anything special about the serial cable sold by neptune systems, or will a standard serial cable work?

They are special, 8 pin DIN(vs. 6 pin for a keyboard) plug and a standard serial on the other.

Sean at Aquatic Creations had a whole box of AC cables and alarm modules, he was selling them cheap few weeks back.

I don't think that you will find a standard computer cable with the right internal connections and connectors. See the hardware faq on our website for the required connections, or purchase our serial cable (part #SERPC9).
