Our beloved Trottman was hospitalized today due to Palytoxin poisoning.

The best recollection of what happened was last night while fragging he got some zoanthid juice in his eye. Today just before noon he came into the shop staggering and out of it like he was intoxicated.

He was filling RO containers then fainted.
Trottman regained consciousness and sat in a chair then started vomiting and fainting.
I called his Parents to come pick him up because I thought he might have downed a fifth of hard liquor or something, he was just getting it out of his system.

He dad is a trauma surgeon and said he was not drunk or had alcohol poisoning and something was wrong so I called and ambulance and he was taken to the hospital.

All toxicology reports for drugs and alcohol came back negative.
His symptoms matched what palytoxin does to you.
I told the Paramedic and his dad that it could have been palytoxin right before the pulled away after thinking about it.
They looked it up and said it was the probable cause.

He is in intensive care for the night on fluids and IV.
I just talked to his dad and he is hungry and is urinating(which is a good sign?)
So he is good for now.

Moral of the story,
WEAR GLOVES, WEAR MASK, WEAR EYE PROTECTION.

Poor Trottie...seems like everything happens to that guy :( Good to know the symptoms, or at least what happened to him, because I do enough fragging of zoas/palys that it could easily happen to me. Get well soon Trottie!!!

I hope Trottie gets back to his old self quickly, And Hats off to you Steve, for being there, and being on your toes. Knowing Trottie love of liquid refreshments, many might have just figured to just let him sleep it off. Again, Good Job Steve.

wow that is scary. is there tests tha can be done to check if it is palytoxin? I don't ahve any zoos but I always wear gloves when messing with the stuff. Guess I will add safety glasses to my kit too.

Hope all is well.. I was just saying the other day I wonder what happens if you get that in your eye while fragging zoo's.. guess I know now.. Good luck and again hope all is well!

wettank and I were in yalls shop today while all of the EMS and such were there(WT bought the frogspawn) and he didnt look good at all "pasty" was the word that came to my mind as they wheeled him to the ambulance in the office chair.

Hope all continues to keep getting better for him

Trott-did you do too many shots off of the belly button of the lead singer?? JJ But all jokes aside-I hope you are fine and rebound better than ever!! My man, you know that you should wear gloves and eye wear!!??? Zo 101. Was it a paly or proto that got you? Those seem to pack the biggest punch for me.

The non-smoker is very correct in that you should wear eye gear and gloves when handeling/fragging zoos. God Speed my man!!

What hospital did Matt go to? See if you might be able to find out Steve. I'd stop by and harrass him tomorrow if it was where his dad works.

I second this statement. I never wear gloves or sheild my eyes and I've fragged my share of Zoas myself. No wonder Lonnie always lets me do that! Hope all is well for him :( That sucks. Hang in their lil fellow will miss you while your recovering.

Matt, I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy and complete recovery....hang in there!!
