Serpantine Starfish LEGS ONLY!

Ok. I don't know what happened to one of my serpentine star fish. But one day I see him with a huge gash in the core of his body. The next morning all I find in the bottom of the tank is 3 legs. I though the puffer might have gotten a hold of him. But the other star is roaming around unscathed.

NOW THE WIERD PART.... I go to pull the severed legs out and they are still moving around. I figure I'd throw them in a glass enclosure and put them in the small 29 gallon hospital tank until they die. Well, three weeks later and they are still as lively as they were when they had a body. LOL

Now I know they can grow a leg back if lost. BUT... can they grow a body back?? I mean really!! three weeks??

The wife cracked me up the other day. She says (Are your ready for this??)
"Well feed them some medicated brine shrimp or something". LMAO

I tell here I could give them Fillet Mignon. But WITHOUT A MOUTH what are they going to do with it. So besides FEEDING them something they can't injest BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO MOUTH.... What do think the chances are they can regenerate a body? :lolspin:

There's another thread on here from a few yrs back that has pictures of a starfish growing a new body from just a leg.

Thanks for finding that. VERY interesting. And the commenst were funnt as well. We'll see if it works with serpentine stars as well. maybe I'll start documenting the legs.
