Serpent Star hitchhiker

starting a new system and purchased a few pounds of live rock ..

I live 45 minutes from the lfs and the live rock was in a container of water the whole time..

as I was setting up the tank I noticed that a serpent star was in one of the rocks...

it was exposed to air for about 5 seconds from the container to my tank and it wasnt properly acclimated..

Will it survive???

Never had one before and not sure how hardy they are???

They can be pretty hardy. Just be sure to keep the Ammonia out of the tank while the rock cures. That will be the killer if it dies or makes it. Salinity stability will be key as well. If it's doing poorly, it's legs will start falling off first. I had a 12 inch Brittle star lose it's legs up to about 1" off the oral disc, but they grew back after the system stabilized, and the star survived to become about 14" tip to tip.

Nice hitchhiker!

Thank you for the replies,

To let it settle in I have left the lights off and now just to check thinks out I put on the moon lights,

Seems as if he has moved from one end to the other so I hope thats a good sign..

I hope all is well
