Server Host

Ok guys.

I can help bide you time if you need.

I do this for a living, and in fact worked for Microsoft as a sr engineer and architect for their Internet infrastructure services. I have a fiber link at the house and can host the site for a time being and help you find a permanent home that won't rip you off.

Although I am in MTRC, we are like brethren here so I am happy to help. Let me know.

That's a nice offer!

I don't believe that paying to host a site was the real issue though.

Well, either way I have both Linux and Windows servers available for free until you decide what/where ect.. I can also help you gain control of your DNS and a free DNS engine to help with that so you don;t have to pay for it either. I am just offering to help :-) I hate to see community clubs have issues when I can do something about it.

I recently moved to Memphis and I do this for a living as well... have a business class connection and Linux/Windows servers for hosting and I do a lot of web development. In fact, I have a client who owns a LFS http://www.premieraquaticsok.com (not one of my better sites but that's what he wanted ;)) Also happy to help if necessary.

Hippie,

Whats your link? I just got fiber to the house so screaming now :-)

Sorry to gripe, but that clownfish image that's in the header on our home page totally creeps me out... http://www.easttnreefclub.com/ Is it just me? heh. Maybe a real clown pic?

Hippee, just an FYI - the frames on that site are totally broke here (latest firefox, 1280x1024):

Lucky you! I had fiber in Seattle but Memphis just has cable from Comcast... not very happy with it, even the business class is slow...

My server at the house is turned off right now and I'm at work, still getting everything situated and that's one of the last things on my list but I just need to tighten the security down... I had it up for a few days and started noticing a bunch of attempted hacks thru ssh from China... fortunately they didn't get in but I just shut it down and haven't had a chance to mess with it yet... have all of my business clients hosted with Godaddy in the meantime... easier that way, let them worry about it. ;)

Hippe!!! I know what you mean.

Funny thing, before moving here 18 months ago, I was in seattle or 25 years and a week before I moved I got notified by Verizon that FIOS was available for service at my house..LOL. I had been waiting for it for years while working at Msoft.

The fiber here is better than up there also. I ahve 25mb service here at the house. For 65 bucks a month. Can't beat it.

Cable still is not as good imo. It is fine for download, but when you want to do somethign serious it bursts, has a lot of packet fragmentation, is a shared pipe so speeds really vary, and forget the upload speed. Cable has very little. Plus Im with you on hating the cable co. I said goodbye to cable 12 years ago and never looked back. Sattelite TV, and fiber network :-)
