STAG HORN DOMINATE REEF
Hi
I just want to have some idea for setting up my sps reef tank.
Tank dimension is 24x60x24 with center over flow. It has 2 3/4" return. I use iwaki rxlt 40 for main return pump. I have 40 gal sump with a reef devil skimmer and a rio 3000. A rio 2500 feed to an Arctica 1/4 chiller then through a 50 gal refugium tank then gravity feed back to sump. I have 1x400 watt 14k hallide on each side and 1x175 20k in the middle. I also have 2x55watt acitnic power compact. I use an Octopus 3000 controller to monitor ph,orp and temperature. For flow I have a tunze wavebox and a tunze stream 6010. This tank was set up succesfully before with mix corals and fish. But now I want to try out the difficult SPS corals. I have move all my sand to the 50gal refugium and go bare bottom in the main tank. I think that I need to upgrade my skimmer?any thought?ASM,Euro reef or the Deltec.

Thanks for your input

i would check out deltec or h&s skimmers. i have a deltec apf600 on my 38 gallon right now while waiting to upgrade to my 120. it kicks some serious butt. i've heard good things about h&s as well. it is a lil bit cheaper than deltec. check out the deltec and the h&s forums here on reefcentral

avoid ASM ,they're use sedra pump, they're created too much heat.your chiller will be on constanley, same thing with ER,but they're do make them with difference pump which i never try them before.ER make external also,i would go that route if i get ER.Deltec and H&S are in it class by it's own.they're worth every penny.check out the new ATI skimmer ,they're not in the USA market as of yet.it's will be in a couple week.low watts pump mean which created less heat.gl

I'm thinking about just adding kalwasser and calcium supplement and not going the Cal reactor route. My tank is in my living room and I don't have space to set up the cal reactor. Can I still get away without the cal reactor? BTW beside deltec which other skimmers will do recirculate?

ER and H&S both do external recirculate also.u can get away without the reactor.the most importance thing about keeping sps IS WEEKLY water change.between 5% and 10% .

Or more, depending on how much of a slave you want to be to your corals.-Jim (slave to corals and fish)
