Set Up Questions!

So I'm converting my 125g tank from freshwater to salt! And first thing on the list is a sump/Refugium..

So my question is exactly what should I do? I've never drilled an aquarium and not sure how all that works.. A HOB overflow into a sump seems easier but i've heard mixed reviews.. And is it better to buy a refugium set up? Or a DIY type thing? Is there any guidance on purchasing everything I need?

Any experience or guidance would be great!

HOB's are ok when you do everything possible to eliminate the possibility of a siphon loss (equals water all over the floor)

Drilled is really the "Best".. and if you want the "best" drilled system then go with a bean animal design..

First thing to do is find out if you tank can even be drilled.. (find manufacturer and call them or use polarized glasses or other tricks to see the tempering..)

Then either you can/want to DIY because thats who you are or you don't as you don't have the skills or don't want to learn the skills..

Personally I DIY as much as I can when it makes sense/saves cost,etc.. But I'm me and really enjoy doing it myself and I have the skills needed to follow through :)

If you haven't already I HIGHLY suggest you read as much of this thread as you can..
It should answer most of your questions and provide you with enough knowledge to get started properly..

Thank you! I've had salt water tanks before, and had tanks with sumps, just new to setting it all up from the ground up

This is the type of stuff I was looking at for the sump btw

Also, I was looking at the bean animal design, how hard is that to set up on a tank?

Make sure that the parts that you plan on drilling is not tempered glass or else you will end up with a glass explosion.
