seth heres the t5

Ok guys, i know that T's are rated differenty than other lights (that you grade them by wattage)....but now what do you do for T's, like would this light be more than enought for SPS in my 75?

Teklights are awesome. they have the bulbs with individual reflectors and should easily support sps in that size tank. i have the 4x54w fixture on my 55g and it seems to be more powerful than MH at times- at least when i get corals from MH systems i usually have to start them out at the bottom of the tank or they'll get too much light.

Just a question since I was considering getting these for my 55, Do they actually include bulbs? It seems its just the fixture and lamps but no bulbs. I guess it still wouldnt be a bad deal, but 4 bulbs would push the price up another 120$?

I am unsure :( I got mine from reefgeek.com The guy who runs it helped me set up my bulb combo too.

Also I should add T5s have a more blue light than one might see from MH- in a smiliar way that VHOs are kind of pinkish.

I think im running 2 03 actinics, one more purply (460nm?) and one thats like blue but more toward the white spectrum ironically named super actinic +

Good call on that, I didn't even catch that. Was wondering why it was such a good deal. Joke. I'd rather go with 2 mh pendants for that kinda money...

Seth,

I have a 4x54 Teklight that I will be selling along with my AGA 90.
It may be a week or 2 before I get the new MH/VHO wired in.
The lamps are old and will need to be replaced.
But if you aren't in a hurry it will save you some cash.

I agree with mrcrab about not having fans - they do run hot!
So, I bought a pair of 6" Air King fans from SITC that fixed the problem.
I like the fans so much I took off my IceCap fans which cost twice as much.
In fact I put one over the sump along with one in the canopy and have not needed to use my chiller!

ARe you sure that it comes with lamps seth? After reading the ad, it looks like you have to pay for em seperate.

Hmm my teklights dont run hot at all unless you, say, put your finger on the bulb. but the fixture and everything are okay to the touch especially since its flourescent lighting

Fuzzy, how much would yous ell the light for? and would that include the fans?

If memory serves, I paid around $240 for the fixture plus the cost of the bulbs.
The bulbs are way out of date - so you would need to replace them.
The standard bulbs are around $26 each - and the combo bulbs go for about $38.00.

So - I would think the fixture is worth somewhere around $120.
And no the fans are not included - they are in use on my tank.
In fact I'm buying 1 more to go with my MH's.
But I do have a set of new in the box Ice Cap fans that will be going up for sale soon :p
My old ones were pretty much shot - so they are in the trash....

The Sunlight Supply HQI fixture listed - is just the fixture - you will still need a bulb and a ballast. That could cost somewhere around $150 or so.....

Our new 150 is getting a pair of PFO 150w HQI w/electronic ballasts plus 4 x 2' VHO actinics driven off an Ice Cap 660 Ballast.

I am not keeping light intensive corals or clams so the 150's will give me plenty of light - and less heat/costs than a 250w.
And if I really want some caps or montis - I can put them high up on the rocks to get the light they need.

So for my needs, this give me the best of both worlds - and I won't need to run a chiller any more!
