First off hello everybody! I just picked up a 240g truvu aquasystem and really want to go reef. I hear this is not the ideal tank to do a reef but I got it cheap and couldn't pass it up. What would you guys do if you wanted to go reef with a tank like this? I currently have 6 damsels with about 50lbs of live rock with around 2 week old cycled water. There's currently bio balls in the wetdry also. I'd prefer to do w/o a sump "if possible". Thanks in advace!

First - get rid of the damsels and add more rock. (ditch the bio-balls)
Why would you prefer to do w/o a sump? The sump will offer so many positives versus no sump.
What are the dimensions of the tank?

Go with a sump. The only thing you are losing is the cost of plumbing, sump (find a used tank thats all scratched up for cheap), and return pump. I thought it would be too pricey on my 60g, and I regretted no sump after a month or two. Love having a sump on my new tank....

Thanks for the response guys...the only reason I'd rather do w/o is because the tank doesn't have an overflow nor is it drilled. It has a built in wet/dry system in the back of the tank. I just don't know which direction to go with this. I know there are many options I just want to hear your guys' opinions..

i would say get rid of the damsels, add more rock.put baffles in your sump and get rid of the bioballs.lots of problems ive heard with them in reefs

More rocks will be nice. If not then at least try to put all the rocks you have currently into 2 vertical rockscaping instead of spreading out thin rock layer on sand surface.
